Donald Bain Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 4 to Aug. 5, 2008.
OBITUARY DONALD ALFRED "BUNK" BAIN Passed away quietly on August 2, 2008 in Montreal, Quebec, at seventy-six years of age. He was born in the Town of Mount Royal on October 3, 1931. He was a "townie" his entire life, spending summers at Youghall Beach and winter months in Sarasota. Don will be sadly missed by his loving wife of fifty-three years Gerry Gerow; his children Tracy, Trevor (Bettina), Robin (Andy), and Wendy (Shelley); his grandchildren Jonah and Caspar, who were the delight of his life; and his sister Lorna. Don and his brothers, Lloyd and Schwank, spent their youth playing their beloved baseball, with Bunk pitching no-hitters for Mount Royal. He later joined the Royal Montreal Golf Club where, for many years, he could be found at the first tee at 8:04 every Saturday morning and in the 19th hole with his golfing buddies in the afternoon. He was also an avid curler, serving as the centenary President of the Montreal Thistle Curling Club. He was still skiing with Twin Ski, and his grandkids, this past winter. While still in his twenties, he and Schwank founded a construction company, Asbestos Erectors, which Don ran passionately until his retirement. Don served his business community as Chairman of The Canadian Construction Association and Director of the Montreal Executive Association. He also served the greater community, as President of the Douglas Residence and as Director of the Father Dowd Home. Don's great lust for life, sense of humour, courage and strength, and love for his family will be remembered by all those who knew him and loved him. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Montreal Neurological Hospital for the excellent care and compassion shown both to Don and his family. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Friends of the Neuro c/o the MUHC can be made in the name of Don Bain. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 5 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Mount Royal Funeral Complex, 1297 Chemin de la Foret, Outremont. A service will be held at Annunciation of Our Lady Parish, Laird Boulevard (75 Roosevelt Avenue), Town of Mount Royal on Wednesday, August 6 at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow.

Dear Gerry & Family,
My deepest sympathy in the loss of
Don. He was my star pitcher when I
played & managed the Mt. Royal
Cardinals & I was his catcher. We had many a goodtime together with
he & Shwank. The Bain family were
wonderful people to have known.
God Bless.
