A resident of Carl Junction, Missouri, Donald was born in Denison, Kansas to William "Clarence" Bruton, and Winifred (Melton) Bruton on December 24, 1933, Donald's journey through life was marked by a blend of optimism, realism, and a childlike wonderment that never faded.

Donald served in the Kansas National Guard from 1951 to 1957, a period during which he honed his discipline and commitment to service. Donald's career path was diverse which included employment at the Key Milling Company in Clay Center, KS, where he worked as a bookkeeper and truck driver from 1964 to 1973. Later, his career trajectory shifted to the hospitality industry where he managed hotels and motels in Manhattan, Junction City, and Colby, Kansas, from 1978 to 1986. He concluded his professional journey as an over-the-road truck driver based out of Joplin, Missouri, from 1988 to 2000, during which he traversed the American landscapes he so loved.

Donald's educational background includes his graduation from Clifton High School - Clifton, KS in 1951, a foundational experience that set the stage for his lifelong learning and exploration.

A passionate baseball fan, Donald's allegiance to the Kansas City Royals was unwavering. His love for country music provided a soundtrack to his travels across 49 states, underscoring his deep appreciation for the diverse tapestry of America.

Donald is survived by his sister, Gloria Fee of Clay Center, KS; his children, Julie Bruton of Garden Grove, CA; Robin (Bruton) Leininger of Topeka, KS; and Todd Bruton and his wife Catherine of Cripple Creek, CO.
