Donald Martin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 20, 2024.
Donald Lewis Martin, 48, of Sigourney, Iowa, passed away on January 9, 2024, in his hometown. Born on January 26, 1975, in Des Moines, Iowa. Donald was the beloved son of Jane McGlumphry and Mike McGlumphry. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ladora Martin, and his father, Monty Martin.

Donald, known to his friends and family as Donny was a gentle giant with a heart of gold. He had an infectious laugh that could light up any room and a personality that drew people towards him like moths to a flame. Known as the biggest teddy bear, His warm hugs were legendary among those who knew him best - they had the power to heal even the deepest wounds. Donny was funny, witty and loved to joke around. He was loving, charismatic, giving and a kind-hearted individual. He had a caring and helpful nature, always ready to lend a hand to those in need.

A man of simple pleasures, Don had a deep love for music, movies, pizza, and his family. He cherished the time he spent with his family the most. Donald found joy in the little things in life. He loved nothing more than indulging in pizza while immersing himself into fantasy worlds filled with dragons and swords - passions that brought out his inner childlike wonder.

Don attended West High School and later pursued a career in the maintenance industry. He worked diligently for a maintenance company, demonstrating his dedication and commitment to his profession.

He leaves behind his two precious daughters Jade Martin and Andrea Lothe whom he cherished more than anything else in this world. Donald's love for them was immeasurable; he enjoyed spending time watching movies and playing games with them - creating memories that will be treasured forever.

In addition to being survived by his daughters Jade and Andrea; sister-in-law Lisa Eshelman; brothers Shane Hutchison (Amber), Chris Martin (Erica), Damian Sanchez (Daniel), Gabe Hogan (Christina); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

The loss of Donald has left an irreplaceable void within our hearts, but we take comfort knowing that he is now reunited with his beloved wife Ladora and father Monty who have gone before him.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday February 10th at 10 AM at Tiffin Grace United Methodist Church located at 300 West Marengo Road, Tiffin, Iowa 52340 where family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Donald are invited to pay their respects one last time before laying him to rest.

Rest In Peace dear Donald, you may be gone from our sight but never from our hearts...

A memory that comes to mind that I have to share is Shane Loved to just go and jump on donald cause he was so big and shane was a teeny tiny Little thing. One time don knock him off and shane started to cry. Don cried and said I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. That was don. So kind hearted and caring for his brother and to everyone he knew

Donny and I hardly knew each other but his mother, Jane, is my cousin. She would share baby animals on Facebook and Donny and I would argue jokingly about which one of us should get it. RIP in peace Donny and fly high!

Donald, you were the best big brother anyone could have. You were always there for me. Watchung out for me. We spent our entire lives together. Memories have flooded my mind in the recent days. I will always keep you clos to my and heart and in my memories. I will never forget your big hugs and the love you had for your little bro. Noone cared for me like you did. Every time I go to the fair I will eat a corn dog and gineua grinder and a slice of pizza and top it off with a funnel cake for you. Me and Jade will continue to eat pizzas, play video games and watch movies in your memory. This is goodbye for now until we meet again. Hold a spot for me up there big brother. I LOVE YOU Big brother!!!
