Donald (Peachey) Grassmyer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 13 to Jan. 14, 2023.
Donald Grasmyer, 85, passed away on January 11, 2023 at Hope Hospice. He was born on September 27, 1937 in Lewistown, PA. He was the son of the late Clyde and Esther Grassmyer. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sue; his three daughters Lisa (Sean) Barnes of Boiling Springs, PA; Lori Grassmyer of Fresno, CA and Leslie Grassmyer of Long Island City, NY; Four grandchildren Brendan Barnes, Allison Barnes, Erin Barnes & Kevin Barnes; Brother John Grassmyer; Sister Linda (Butch) Ritter; Sister-in-Law Paula (Gwin) Brower.

Peachey spent most of his younger years on the Rittenhouse farm. After High School he served four years in the US Air Force.

Peachey enjoyed being an Owner/Operator truck driver and a Teamsters Union member for 42 years. He took a lot of pride in his trucks looking sharp. He retired from trucking in 1999 and then worked for PennDot in the winter months plowing and maintaining roads in Mifflin County for several years.

When he was finally ready to get out of the drivers seat professionally, he and Sue moved full time to Fort Myers, FL to enjoy warm weather and golf year around.

Peachey was a member of the Cypress Lake United Methodist Church where he volunteered at the food pantry for the several years.

He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Fort Myers.

He enjoyed playing golf in both Pennsylvania and Florida. He was especially proud of his hole in one that he made at the Mount Union Country Club. He continued to golf through last summer.

Peachey had a great sense of humor and enjoyed joking and laughing with his friends and family.

Peachey was a loving husband and father and enjoyed spending time with and taking care of his family. However, his favorite role was being Pap to his grandkids of whom he was especially proud.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date.

Sue and family - may God's comfort be with you during this difficult time. It's hard to deal with when you have been together for so long. May you find comfort in knowing that the pain is gone and he is with loved ones that were waiting to greet him. May he find peace with Jesus - Blessings to you and your family.
