Donald Phillips Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 28, 2020.
Donald C. Phillips "Don", of Riddle Village in Media PA (formerly of Fox Hill Farms, Glen Mills and Drexel Hill) left this earth and joined heaven on April 28, 2020 following complications of Covid-19. He was 86 years old. He was well known for his generosity, kindness, his "big hugs" and smile, and was loved by everyone he knew. Predeceased by his sister Joan (late) McClung. Survived by his beloved wife of 64-years Joan L. (nee Powers), his son Andrew C. "Andy" (Trish), his daughter Donna J. Karsnick and his five grandchildren: Brandon, Grace, Colin, Aidan, and Andrew. He was a graduate of Upper Darby High School, class of '51and received his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Drexel Institute of Technology (now Drexel University). He was a lifelong employee of Upper Darby Township in the field of municipal government. Don was an Army veteran during the Korean Conflict and served in both the US and Germany. Don was active in sports his entire life and played competitive basketball well into his 50's. He was an avid tennis player and member of Idle Hour Tennis club in Drexel Hill. In addition, Don enjoyed golf and played up until a few years ago. At 86 years old, he also went to planet fitness to workout up until a few weeks before his illness. His grandchildren followed in his footsteps playing a variety of sports over the years. One of his favorite things to do was to attend their games and cheer them on (with a little bit of "coaching" along the way). He was also a big Eagles fan and loved watching them every Sunday. He as his wife Joan enjoyed extensive travel, especially cruising. Some of their favorite travel experiences included the Baltics (going to Sweden to follow his grandmother's Swedish heritage) and visiting almost all the US National Parks. One of the most important things in Don's life was his faith. An active church member throughout his life, he (with wife Joan) most recently attended Calvary Chapel in Chadds Ford. He was involved in many church activities and enjoyed volunteering, especially at City Team Ministries. He was also on the Board of directors of Fellowship of Christ athletes. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. There will be a Celebration of Life for Don at Calvary Chapel, when permitted, details of which will be found on the D'Anjolell website. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to: World Vision (P.O. Box 9716, Federal Way, WA 98063) or online at https://www.worldvision.org/donate. City Team Ministries (634 Sproul St, Chester, PA 19013) or online at https://www.cityteam.org/donate/

We are so sorry to hear of your loss. Don was a friend from church and such a kind, caring man. His faith was an encouragement and we pray you find comfort in God's assurance that as a believer, Don has eternal life with his Savior, Jesus. We will meet our dear friend again. We miss you, Don.
