DORA T. RICH
ITHACA - Dora T. Rich, 94, of Ithaca, died Sunday, August 17, 2008, at the Hospicare Residence. Born July 4, 1914 in Pittsburgh, PA, she was a daughter of the late Angelo and Marguerite Giordano Tavelli, who were longtime dairy farmers in Speedsville. She was the wife of the late L. Gerald "Mike" Rich who died in 1998.
In 1938 she married Mike Rich and moved to Ithaca. She and her husband established and operated the State Diner. She was a dedicated wife and mother who was passionate about her family and charitable to all her friends.
Mrs. Rich is survived by her sons, Jim (Joanne) Rich of Rock Hall, MD and Gerald Rich of Liverpool; grandchildren, Matthew James (Sara) Rich of Easton, MD, Amy Rich of Ithaca, Megan Rich of San Francisco, CA, Michael (Helen) Rich of Taylor, MI, and Matthew Glenn Rich of Mesa, AZ; great-grandchildren, Bennett Rich and Jonah Rich. In addition to her parents and husband of 60 years, she was predeceased by her brothers, Rudy, Andy, and Elmer Tavelli; and her sisters, Mary, Belle and Barbara Tavelli.
Friends may call from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 19 at the E.C. Wagner Funeral Home of Ithaca. A private graveside Service will be held in Caroline Grove Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospicare, 172 E. Dora was a wonderful woman, and it was a pleasure and honor to be a part of her life at the Evergreen House. I will miss her dearly.
