Doris Buchholz

05/19/1934 - 04/14/2021

Doris Frieda (Hettig) Buchholz, 86, died peacefully on April 14, 2021 at Elizabeth Scott Community of Maumee. She was born in St. Joseph, Michigan, May 19, 1934 to Herman and Natalie (Drews) Hettig. Doris attended "teacher school" in St. Joe and taught at Immanuel Lutheran in Toledo where she met the love of her life, Jim Buchholz. They were married December 21, 1957 and had three children, Jeff, Kelly, and Todd. Doris appreciated taking care of Jim and her role as a homemaker.

Doris affectionately known as "Grandma Honey Bunch" loved her family and especially her grandchildren. She loved attending their school and sporting events, instrumental performances, ballet recitals and musicals. A highlight for Grandma Honey Bunch and Grandpa Jim were slumber parties, "dress-ups"- which included a Clinique makeover, a special meal at Bill Knapp's with chocolate cake, and then a trip to the Dollar Store. She also enjoyed sharing her myriad of favorite items, such as, puzzles, games, Simpson & Raisin characters, pet rocks and teddy bear collection. As the grandchildren grew older, Grandma Honey Bunch and Grandpa Jim enjoyed watching them care for their lawn and reminisce over lunch.

Doris is survived by her children, Jeff (Roxanne Lemle) Buchholz, Kelly (Doug) Haack, Todd (Marti Huss) Buchholz; grandchildren, Christopher Lemle, Kyle Buchholz, Ryan (Amanda) Haack, Kelsey (Eddie) Tomich, Todd Jr. (Kristi) Buchholz, Nicki (Todd) Brown, Brent (Taylor) Buchholz, Connor, Cami, Seth and Lilly Buchholz; in addition, seven great-grandchildren and two more on the way! Doris is survived by her sister, Anita; and brothers, Don and Mike. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, Jim; and her brothers, Al, Herman Jr. (Jerry), Gay, Art, and Ed.
