McNIVEN, Dorothea Finlay, nee Millar


We grieve the loss of our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend, who died peacefully in her 94th year, on September 3, 2016 in Montreal, closing a rich, active and generous-spirited life. The eldest daughter of the late Mary Dorothea Drummond and Eric Albany Millar, Dora was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, John (Jack) Laidlaw McNiven (1917-1994) and her eldest son, Ian Andrew McNiven (1950-1994). She is survived by her children, Wendy (Michael Gladman), Bruce (Marie Senécal-Tremblay), Alexander (Teresa Bruce) and Huntly, together with four grandchildren, Katie McNiven Gladman, Alicia Gladman, Yann-Maurice and Marie-Céleste Tremblay McNiven as well as a great-grandson, Hazel McNiven. Dora is also survived by a sister, Fiona Millar of Avignon, France, and was predeceased by her sister, Helen Elizabeth (Nell) Hyde and her brother, Huntly Drummond Millar. She leaves to mourn many nephews, nieces and cousins in her extended family, stretching from Montreal to Australia, together with fondly-remembered friends around the world. A Service in celebration of Dora's life will be held on Friday, September 30 at 11 a.m., followed by a Reception, at the Lakeshore Unitarian Universalist Congregation, located at 5065 Sherbrooke Street, Lachine, Quebec H8T 1H9.
