Dorothy Swallow Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 3 to Feb. 4, 2015.
Dorothy Jean Swallow, born May 27, 1926, in Kansas passed away on January 2nd, 2015, in Bakersfield, California, being cared for at home by her daughters. Dorothy was married for 43 years to Earl Charlton Swallow, who passed away in 1992. She is survived by her daughter, Earlene Krafthefer and husband Robert, her daughter, Darlene Branson, her son, Lyle Swallow and his husband Jack Becker, four grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Robert, who passed away in 2001.
Dorothy was more than just a wife and mother. She was a friend to all in her family, and enjoyed sharing adventures with anyone. Dorothy loved playing bridge and traveling, having driving across the US and Canada several times with her husband and taken more than a dozen cruises. She and her husband frequently had one of the grandsons travel with them. A common statement from her while travelling was: "I can stay at home and have a bad time." While certainly not shy in expressing her opinions, one of Dorothy's strongest attributes was her acceptance of everyone and her refraining from judging others. She accepted people at face value and enjoyed them for who they are.
Internment was at Greenlawn Cemetery, River Blvd, on January 8th. The family will hold a private celebration of Dorothy's life in Bakersfield on February 21st.
