Dorthy Hinnant

Dorthy Hinnant, 87, passed away on January 29, 2025, in Copperas Cove, Texas. She was born on June 17, 1937, in Lorain, Ohio, and spent her childhood in Sheffield Lake, where she cherished her days on Lake Erie with her siblings.

After serving seven years in the Air Force, Dorthy settled in Mansfield, Ohio, before moving to Delaware, Ohio, where she worked for the school district until her retirement. Upon retiring, she relocated to Gulf Shores, Alabama, where she embraced coastal living and an active social life.

Dorthy had a deep love for the coast and spent years dedicated to turtle patrol efforts, helping to protect and preserve sea turtles. She also had a passion for lighthouses and found joy in spending time at the beach and pool nearly every day. Known for her servant's heart, she volunteered with Christian Services and several other organizations, always giving back to her community.

She is survived by her brother, Edward Nestick Sr.; her niece, Michelle Nicolaus (Bill); her great-nieces, Kristen Bowsher and Jamie Robinson; her great-nephew, Trevor Robinson; and several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Anna Nestick; her brother, Frank Nestick; her sister, Patricia Nestick; and her great-nephew, Christopher Nestick.

A private ash-scattering ceremony with family and close friends will be held aboard the Shady Lady on March 17 at Zeke's Landing, 26619 Perdido Beach Blvd., Orange Beach, AL. Invited guests should arrive no later than 3:40 PM. Following the service, the family will receive guests at 220 W. 2nd St., Apt. C107, Gulf Shores, beginning at 7:30 PM.

Dorthy will be remembered for her kindness, love of the ocean, and the joy she brought to those around her. She will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
