Douglas FARWELL Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 11, 2022.
Doug was a devoted father and faithful servant to Christ through to his peaceful passing on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Trinity Village Care Centre. He will be incredibly missed by his son, Jeremy. Ready to welcome him home in Christ are his parents, Albert (1987) and Dorothy (Reidel 2012), his brother Roger (2021), his nephew Sean Padden (1991) and his nieces, Luanne (1993) and Sherri (1994). The angelic hosts in Heaven include many close relatives, uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. Doug was born on April 3, 1943, and was fortunate to be the brother of Joyce Hause (Jim), Sandi Farwell, Bernie Farwell (Nan), the late Roger Farwell (Cathy) and Jim Farwell (Lynn). The Farwell family's upbringing and teaching by Bert and Dorothy ensured that Doug's brothers, sisters, and many cousins who considered Jeremy a sibling were there to assist with his disabilities. He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews and a good friend to many. He never denied family members or friends their request for prayers and committed to reciting them every day. He attended Sacred Heart elementary school and St. Jerome's high school where he made many friends. Doug joined the Knights of Columbus in 1970, the fourth degree in 1971, was a past faithful navigator, a member of St. Mark's Parish, Knights of Columbus, and previously a member of the Waterloo Knights of Columbus. He became an Oblate of St. Benedict in 1996 and then an un-ordained member of the Order in 1998. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Choir, and also the Funeral Choir. He was Cantor (leader of music), lecturer and treasurer of Blessed Sacrament, St. Vincent de Paul Conference. He was also a member of the RCIA Team for 12 years. Since 1993, he has been a member of St. Anthony Daniel Parish Cursillo Movement. He was extremely proud of his achievements as a Knight. In 1988, Doug became the administrative face of The Catholic Community Foundation and The Catholic Charities Lottery until his retirement in 2015. Doug lived a life trapped in a physical form that did not respond to him the way that he wanted it to. His brain worked so much faster than his body. While his loss has created an immense void for his son, family and friends, there is gratitude in the knowledge that Doug has been released from pain and isolation and is truly free to stand up easily, walk purposefully and participate actively as a devoted Catholic in the Lord's home. Doug's family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. & 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Blessed Sacrament Parish, 305 Laurentian Drive, Kitchener. Interment at Williamsburg Cemetery. Those wishing to attend Doug's visitation and service must RSVP through the funeral home website or by calling 519-749-8467. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Kids Ability, St. Vincent de Paul - Blessed Sacrament Church or Cystic Fibrosis Canada would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).

Sincere sympathies. Loved seeing the photo you chose for his obituary. That smile. That memorable, room - brightening smile of his. To be missed for sure. Doug's passing is a reminder for all of us to count our daily blessings for even the simplest things, like going for a walk. I hope his " best life " is yet to come.

Dear Jeremy and Members of the extended Farwell Family.
May God's Love be your strength and comfort as you deal with the passing of your father, brother, and uncle Doug. Just as the sun will set and rise with every dawn, the souls of those who lived life well will eternally live on. Now that the sun has seemed to set on Doug, so very dear to you, know that a soul who lived so well on earth remains forever near. May you continue to feel his loving presence during these difficult days, weeks and months. With our love and continued prayer support.
