Douglas HOBSON Obituary
August 1, 1974 ~ February 2, 2014
Sadly, Doug, husband, son, brother, uncle, step-father and friend lost his battle with cancer on Sunday, February 2, 2014. Diego was in Regina. He graduated from Indian Head High School in 1993 and went on to the University of Regina where he obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Science followed by a Bachelor's of Business Administration. Doug worked for several years in Saskatchewan's oil patch as a well-side geologist. Following a motorcycle accident in October 2011, he spent several months in rehab at Wascana. During that time he realized he had ignored the most important part of his life and proposed to the love of his life Raelene. No sooner had wedding plans been made than he was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer. Despite this Doug and Raelene were married on June 30, 2013. Doug is survived by his loving wife Raelene; stepson Vaughn; parents Barry and Judi; sisters Stacy (Brad) Linnen of McLean, and Siobhan (Christopher) Brown of Indian Head; brother Travis (Dora) of Georgetown, ON; nieces Emily and Bridget Linnen and Arabella Hobson; nephews Oliver Brown and Massimo Hobson. He is also survived by Raelene's parents Anna Marie and David McGonigal; brothers-in- law Nicholous (Leanne) and Justin (Jill); nephews Lochlan, Hudson and Sully and niece Rae. He is further survived by uncles Greg (Marlene) Hobson and Ian Ferguson all of St. Albert, AB and many cousins and friends. Special thanks to the Pasqua 3B and 4A nurses for their support and care and also to Dr. Zarkovic of the Allan Blair Cancer Centre. Doug was a friend from University and was a big part of my life for many years. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. My sincere condolences to Doug's family. You don't realize how much of an influence someone is in your life until you realize he is not there to receive a text message. I have really taken his friendship for granted. Condolences to Raelene and the Hobson family, Doug is a tribute to how wonderful your family is.

I am so sorry to hear about Doug's untimely passing. I got to know Doug quite well when we worked together on a geological survey crew in northern Saskatchewan during three months in 2000, when he was still a student at the U of R. I remember him as someone with remarkable work ethics, a good sense of humour, a great listener and generally just a really nice guy. We had a great summer together and I will hang on to those memories forever. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends. He will be missed.

Due to age differences and physical distance, I never got to know my young cousin Doug. But I well recall the strong love and intense pride that his late grandma Dorothy had for him; their's was a truly special and unique bond that made a lasting impression upon me. So too did the dazzling fight Doug put up against the most daunting odds anyone could ever face. Those who did know Doug are lucky indeed.

Dougie. Words can't express enough how shocked I was to hear of this from Kyle.
