NORBURY _ Douglas S. In Sarcee Hospice on the morning of November 11, 2008 in his 91st year. Although Calgary was the family home, Doug was born in Renfrew County, Ontario to James and Mabel during a trip east. Predeceased in 1996 by his wife LaVonne (nee Paulson) whom he married in 1939, he is survived by daughter Sandra Beamer (William); grandchildren Suzanne McPhedran (Duncan) and Douglas Beamer; great-grandchildren Samantha and Sarah McPhedran; brother Lyn of Victoria and brother-in-law William (Lois) of Mesa and several nieces and nephews in Calgary, Arizona, Indiana and British Columbia. He served in the Canadian Army during the war and following return to Calgary worked in the wholesale confectionery trade, farmed east of Calgary, and operated restaurants in Calgary and South Bend. He retired from Canadian Western Natural Gas. A Memorial Service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 3610 Sarcee Road S.W. on Monday, November 17, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. In memoriam, donations may be made to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre (1331 - 29 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2). Arrangements entrusted to MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME and CEMETERY, 1605 - 100 Street S.E. (17 Avenue S.E. and Garden Road), Calgary, AB. Telephone: 403-272-5555.
