Dr. Daniel Lewis Bauer

CHANDLER - Dr. Daniel Lewis Bauer, 78, of Chandler, AZ, passed away on October 17, 2023 from metastatic disease, originating in the parotid gland. He was born on December 13, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois Cook County. He was raised in Kankakee, Illinois. He was a kind sensitive, and compassionate man who always showed concern and care for others. He had a unique and profound perspective, which stemmed from his intellect and deep thinking nature. He was a wordsmith with a clever sense of humor.

Dan is survived by his wife Kimberly Bauer, son Alexander Thomas Bauer, daughter-in-law Krystalyn Bauer, and cherished grandchildren Jaxon Hayes, Oliver Thomas, and Finley Rosamond. He was beloved by his in laws. He was preceded in death by his father, August Alban Bauer in 1957, his mother, Rosamond Norris Huff Bauer around 1982, and his daughter, Emily Rosamond Bauer in 2003.

Dan graduated from Kankakee High School in 1962. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Denison University in 1966 and a Doctor of Medicine degree from Northwestern Medical School in 1970. After completing his education, Dan served as a Captain in the United States Air Force from 1971 to 1973 at UDorn Royal Thailand Air Force Base, with the 432 Division.

Following his military service, Dan embarked on a successful career. He worked at Good Samaritan Hospital in 1970-71, Williams Air Force Base in 1971, and Arizona State University, Student Health from 1973 to 1978. He then dedicated himself to a solo general practice. For over three decades, he was deeply loved and appreciated by his patients for his exceptional care: retiring in 2011. Dr. Bauer's commitment and expertise earned him the Patient's Choice Award from 2008 to 2010.

In his personal life, Dan found solace and strength through his faith. In 1976, after reading a letter from Bill Bright of Campus Crusade for Christ, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. He attended Arizona Community Church in Tempe, Arizona, where he worshipped and found community.

Dan had a wide range of hobbies and interests. He had a passion for collecting and enjoyed creating displays for his collections using mixed media. He was an artist that loved bright colors and painting with acrylics. For several years he enjoyed motorcycling on his Harley named "Loretta." Additionally, he excelled in racket sports such as tennis, handball, and racquetball. Every week, he would gather with his friend Bill for friendly competitions in darts, bocce ball, or shuffleboard. Dan enjoyed playing cards with his wife and friends. He was a member of a men's Bible study and a Book Club, coined Knights of the Round Table. He combined his artistic talent and faith by creating scripture cards and journey cards.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 11:00 am at Arizona Community Church, located at 9325 S. Rural Road, Tempe, AZ 85284.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Phoenix Rescue Mission at phxmission.org/nextgift.

Dr. Daniel Bauer will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

I so wish I had seen this sooner. Dr Bauer was my GP for years until he retired and I miss him still. My favorite memory was when I had my prostate checked for the first time. I told him I wasn't looking forward to this and he replied Rick, it's not the highlight of my day either. Loved him ever since. I'm sorry I couldn't do so earlier , my condolences to all his family. He was a good man

Dr. Bauer saved my life... literally. I came to him close to death from a rare lung disorder. He wasn't sure he could save me, and gave me 1-2 years to live - in 2008. The smile on his face will forever be in my memory - the day he said I was responding to treatment. I am so sad that he has passed. My entire family thinks of him with fondness and gratitude for his knowledge, certainly, but also for his gentle manner and spirit. The world is a better place because he was in it. God bless you, Dr. Bauer

Gary Bloomquist here with San Tan Bible Church.
My wife, Robyn and I, comment so many time about the life saving care Dr. Bauer gave to me. Just now as I was recollecting, we looked up how I could contact him to thank him as I have everyday of my life, all to discover that he is with his Lord and savior.
At a height of paralyzing anxiety and all that goes with that, the Lord lead me to Dr. Bauer. I will never forget how he handed me a verse and said "we need to get you physically well so you can be mentally well so you can be spiritually well".
It was soon after that I could come to the point of turning my fear of everything over to the Lord and asked the love of my life to be my life long partner in ministry.
Dr. Bauers influence and particularly his words to me "to get physically well to be mentally well to become spiritually well" have revolutionized my counseling as a pastor for the past 42 years. Thank you dear friend, inspiration and mentor; my gift from my savior and Lord.

Dr. Bauer was a wonderful man, and doctor. I have some of his scripture cards. On a funny note, loved his shoes with flames on the side. My doctor for many years.

Dan was a cherished friend. Probably the most devout Christian I have ever known personally. Very kind, gentle, humble, and spiritual guy with a wonderful sense of humor and a great smile. Very devoted to our Men's Bible Study and Roundtable Book Club for many years. May he rest in peace with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jim Garth
