Dr. Dharma APPAVOO Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 10 to Jul. 11, 2015.
APPAVOO, Dr. Dharma
On July 4, 2015, Dr. Dharma Appavoo of Edmonton, formerly of Kerrobert, SK passed away at the age of 87 years. Dharma is survived by his daughters, Dr. Sheila Appavoo (Robert Feagan) and Dr. Lita Appavoo (Allan); two grandchildren, Maya and Arjun and his former wife, Pat Appavoo.
Dr. Appavoo broke barriers of the time when he graduated from the University of Cape Town in the 1950's. Trained in radiology and psychiatry in England, he brought his family to Canada and settled in Kerrobert, SK, tirelessly serving the community for thirty five years. He embraced Canadian culture and was awarded the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal, an honour he cherished. Dr. Appavoo retired to Alberta at age 80, where he spent time with his daughters and grandchildren. An extensive world traveller, yachtsman, raconteur and opinionated intellectual who enjoyed pushing the status quo, his colourful yarns were a never-ending source of entertainment.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mohsen Adams for his compassionate care and friendship throughout the years.
Funeral Service Sunday, July 12 at 1:30 p.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue. Yvonne Racine officiating. Cremation to follow.

Sorry to hear of your dad's passing. Whenever I needed to see a doctor while visiting family I was glad your dad was on call. He always had time to visit even if someone was waiting next door. Everyone knew he cared and would take all the time needed.

My memories of my dear Dr Appavoo start from when I was a small child. I loved visiting him. More then once in my teen years when I went looking for antibiotics he sent me out with a lollipop - he even had a straight face. I have fond memories of him, my last being Dharma piercing my second daughter's ears 9 years ago during a Kerrobert summer holiday. So many years of caring. RIP Dharma Appavoo.

Dr. Appavoo was my dad's (Doug Swan)doctor for years and was possibly the reason he did as good as he did. Doctors in Saskatoon didn't have much hope for him but Dr. Appavoo was an amazing doctor and helped my dad to be able to spend five more years with us. We lived in Smiley and dad travelled to Kerrobert regularly. So sad to hear of his passing but so honoured to have met this wonderful man. To his family....know how much he was loved by his patients and families.
