Dr. Richard G. Kimmel

Augusta, GA - Entered into rest on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, Dr. Richard Gayne Kimmel, 78, loving husband of 37 years to Valerie Strom Kimmel.

Richard was born in Richmond, Indiana and was raised near Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Wilmington College where he played basketball, ran track and was a member of TDK Fraternity. Richard then attended the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry and earned a D.M.D. degree and orthodontic residency, M.S.D. He also taught at University of Kentucky Dental School for two years.

Richard established an orthodontic office in Ft. Myers, Florida where he practiced for twenty-five years. He married Valerie, from the Augusta area, in 1986. Upon retirement, they relocated to Augusta. Richard enjoyed golf, flying, riding motorcycles and fly fishing.

Family members, in addition to his wife include his sister: Sue K. Grubb (Dr, David Grubb); sister-in-law: Jacquelyn Iley (Brett) of Bogart, GA, Erika Brasco (Craig) of Marietta, GA and Beth Strom of Reno, NV; nieces: Kyndall Iley and Natalie Brasco and nephews: Tanner Iley and Nicklaus Brasco. He was preceded in death by his parents Hubert and Joan Kimmel.

The Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rabbi David Sirull officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the WalMart Golf Group and the Romeos.

The family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to The Dental College of Georgia, Office of the Dean, 1120 15th Street, GC-5203, Augusta, GA 30912, designated to support scholarships at the dental school.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Ft. Myers, FL at a later date.
