Drew Baird Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 1 to Aug. 2, 2006.
BAIRD _ Drew Douglas October 19, 1981 - July 28, 2006 Drew Douglas Baird of Calgary. So much to do, so little time! This was the phrase we heard Drew express many times and was the motto by which he lived his very short 24 years by. Our son and brother lived life to the fullest every day of his life with never enough hours in the day to accomplish all he wanted. Tragically Drew was taken from us in a motor vehicle accident while on vacation in Northern Saskatchewan on July 28, 2006. Drew's zest for life, magnetic personality, and huge smile afforded him many, many special friends and were a very important part of his life. Drew will be sadly missed by his parents, Doug and Connie and sister Lyndsay of Calgary; Grandma and Grandpa Baird of Slave Lake; Granny Korzenowski of Alix, AB; many aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many special friends. A Celebration of Life for Drew will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. from The Gathering Place in Slave Lake, Alberta. In our lives for such a short time, but in our hearts forever! In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kidsport Alberta, at the town of Slave Lake office or online at www.kidsport.ca . Arrangements in care of CHAPEL of MEMORIES (Slave Lake). Telephone: 1-780-523-3540.

To the Baird Family,

My thoughts are with you. I've only met Drew briefly but I know many people who love him dearly. I've had the pleasure of working with Connie and I know Lyndsay, both are very special people. Over the past few months you have all been in my thoughts and prayers. I know it must be very hard for you to carry on somedays but know that Drew is beside you and you can look to him & his memories for comfort. He will always be with you. Somedays I struggle and this is what comforts me. I hope it can help you too. My deepest sympathies to you all.

Dear Doug Connie and Lyndsay
Drew was my best friend, we had a lot of good times and lots of laughs. I'm lost without him, it's going to be hard but I'll always have happy memories of Drew. Drew lived his life to the fullest. I was fortunate to be with Drew during his last days and all I can say is that he couldn't have been happier during our summer holidays. We did everthing we wanted to do and it was turning out to be the best summer ever. Drew also had a favorite song over the summer holidays he would get very excited evertime it came on and it is, Rock and Roll Girls by John Fogerty. Drew will always be in our hearts and my deepest sympathy goes out to the Baird family.

Dear Doug & Family,

I just heard about this tragedy as I've been on holidays for the past two weeks. I am shocked and can only think of you and your family during this time. Although I only knew Drew for a short period of time, he was a true pleasure to be around. He had a zest for life and as you said "never enough time to get things done". He was a bright light and will be truly missed.

Dearest Lyndsay, Connie & Doug,

As we have recently come to learn, life is so precious and more often than not, we take this for granted. Unfortuantely, times like these help us realize the importance of family and friends in our lives. Drew was an amazing person and he will NEVER be forgotten. One thing that Drew taught me, while with us, was to take everything with a grain of salt. He was so optimistic about life and never left home without that beautiful smile of his. He will always have a place in our hearts. Although it is intangible and seems incomprehensible, we will all meet Drew again; I just like to think of it as him getting the "head start". I will keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers and while the healing process is long and difficult, think of the good times you had with Drew and be thankful that you were fortunate enough to share in his growth and good spirit. Drew's presence will never leave your side, as I'm sure he loved you as much as you loved him. I love you guys, you truly are strong & genuine people.

Always in my thought,

Lacey

Our love to the Baird Family,

Thank you for sharing your son and brother with the McMillan family in Calgary.

We loved him and were happy to have had him as part of our family for the years he spent with Leslie.

There is a whole in our hearts and especially Leslie's.

In time, with family and friends, this whole will get smaller, but will always be there.

You are blessed to have had such a delightful, intelligent, adventurous and loving son and brother.

So proud and devastated you must be.

We miss him.

God bless.

I am not good with words in these kinds of situations, and although I never had the opportunity to meet Drew, I felt like I knew him because of the way lyndsay talked of him. He was a very special person, and I was very envious of the brother sister relationship Lyndsey and Drew shared. I am sorry I can not be in attendance, but Lyndsay, your in my thoughts and prayers

To The family of Drew Baird-We have never met but we share your pain and grief. We lost our son Adam in a car accident July 2005. When I read the description of Drew, he sounds just like our son, his love of life, humour and too little time. Hold on to your special memories and may Drew's zest for life help you heal and carry on. Lean on your friends, you will never "get over his loss" but the pain does lessen as the months go by. Our prayers are with you.

Dear Doug & Family,

I am so shocked to learn of Drew's tragic death. I remember the first time you brought Drew to meet Chandra's team at Quest/VECO and how proud you were of him after graduating from Sait. I remember the delightful handsome and young fresh face that joined Chandra's group. I pray that God will grant you, Connie and Lydsey the comfort and solace that you will need in this most trying and difficult time.

To the Baird family.

I was never lucky enough to meet any other Baird, but I was lucky enough to meet Drew. Him and my sister Leslie, spent a great few years together. Drew touched everyone he met, with a smile that could light up a room, and a hug that could warm any heart. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone at such a difficult time-

Dear Baird Family,

As is a common theme among alot of the messages, I had not known Drew for very long either...Or maybe it's just that it wasn't long enough for anyone who knew or met him. What an amazing son you raised! So prepared to take on everything life had to offer, always out on an adventure!(Hence, all of his helmets!) What a great legacy he has left with anyone who ever met him...

You are in my prayers.

Dear Family of Drew...We are so saddened to hear of the loss of your precious son. We do not know each other, but we know of the saddness and sorrow your family is going throught. We lost our precious son Shane in Feb. 2005 in a tragic MVA. He was also 24 years old. The road ahead is a very long one... but with the love, friendship and faith of family and friends..take one day at a time. Keep the precious memories in your heart. He was the first to become a friend, and I was lucky to have had the chance to learn and create many upon many enjoyable memories in the time spent together.

My deepest regrets are with Doug, Connie, and Lindsay, as I will be unable to be with you on wednesday, as unforseen circumstances have kept me in here in Winnipeg.

Dear Baird Family,

Drew and I met at SAIT, we shared many common interests and became friends quickly. Recently he brought me into Bermac/VECO where he was well liked and respected for his instrumentation knowledge and tireless dedication. He had a contagious laugh, great personality and an excellent golf game. I spoke with him briefly during his holidays when he was debating the purchase of a new wake board, he sounded like he was having a great time! He will be missed. My condolences.

Dear Baird family,

My deepest condolences. I am so fortunate to have met Drew @ Veco in 2003. I would always look forward to breakfasts @ work with the crew in the morning and swapping stories that always had us in stiches. Golf @ 6:30am before work, why we all got up that early just to get whooped by Drew still eludes me. I guess it is because we all loved being around him. His outlook, generosity, laughter and character were infectious. Just being around him was bliss.
