Durwood Zaelke Obituary

March 30, 1921- October 8, 2009 Durwood played piano at the Chi-Chi Club on Palm Canyon Drive in the early 1950's. One night he was called in by his boss at 3:00 AM for a private party for Howard Hughes and an 18 year old Elizabeth Taylor. There was one waitress, one bartender, and Durwood at the piano to entertain the couple. In the early 1970's, Durwood returned to Palm Springs, Calif and performed at Lyon's English Grill. He loved Palm Springs and this beautiful desert. He always spoke of his time here with fondness. He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Diane Zaelke of Indian Wells, Calif; and four sons, Durwood Zaelke, Jr. of Washington, D.C., Dorian Zaelke of Fairfax, Va., Darcy Zaelke of San Francisco, Calif., Dustin Zaelke of Arlington, Va.; his seven grandchildren; and his ten great-grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Lietz-Fraze, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

I just now learned of Mr. Zaelke's passing. I can actually say that I loved the guy. He always joked around saying I was the best lookin' girl on the block, when I was hanging out, hangin' around the neighborhood and in the house with Darc or Dustin. I received a few Christmas gifts from under the tree from him. In the summer. I am sad right now. But remembering him is awesome. I'll never forget him. And I love all his kids too! Here's to Mr. Zaelke and the Zaelke family. Love you guys.

Durwood, Diane, Dorian, Darcy and Dustin~
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your father recently. I will always have great memories of him grumbling under his breath as we drove away in the white car full of kids with Darcy driving! Your parents house was always such a great place to "hang out".
