Earl GREGOR Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald on Mar. 25, 2017.
GREGOR, Earl George
July 30, 1921 – Montreal, Quebec
March 19, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta
Earl Gregor, 95, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017, in Calgary. Earl was born in Montreal, QC on July 30, 1921 to George and Lena Gregor. Growing up, he played in the Salvation Army band and was grateful to the organisation for instilling him with core life values such as good will, compassion and respect. When WWII broke out, Earl was so eager to join the military that he memorised the eye chart so he could pass the exam, though his vision was poor. He did make it in, but when they put him on the machine gun range, he couldn't hit the target, and was stationed in England as an office worker. Earl worked for Fisher Scientific and retired with them. He spent many years square dancing and round dancing with Meri Squares in Ottawa. When he moved to Calgary three years ago, he introduced square dancing to his residence Amica, and brought his enthusiasm for dancing to everyone there. Earl was fascinated with astronomy, and mesmerised by how tiny we humans are in the scheme of the universe. He loved to sing at his residence, and he would walk down the halls with his song sheets, trying to round up willing participants to sing along. Always open to making new friends, Earl had a very special twinkle in his eye and a smile and laugh that would light up a room. Earl is survived by his sister Audrey Brown; his daughter Lynn Eckhardt; his two grandchildren Julia and Conrad Skrzypinski; and extended family and many friends. He was predeceased by his wife Olga Gregor, and his siblings Vera Dempster, Alice Legere, and Roy Gregor. A memorial service will be announced later this year. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Earl Gregor, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.

So sorry to learn of Earl's passing. I had occasion to meet him in the residence where he proudly showed me pictures and mementos of his early years with The Salvation Army. God bless you all as you remember this very special person.

Lynn,
I saw this in the herald and noticed it was your Dad. Will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Lynn and family, so saddened to read of your father, Earl's passing. I had the pleasure of having a few visits with him here in Calgary, with Ken. He seemed like a kind and active man and shared many of his life adventures with us. It was nice to meet you on a couple of occasions as well. I am sure he will be missed. May your memories of happy days give you peace.
