Funeral services will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Latta High School's new gym with burial in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Eddie Rice Gymnasium at Latta High School.
He was the son of the late Earl and Anna Rice of Benton, Ill. Eddie received his college degree from Erskine College. He spent his entire coaching career of 30 years at Latta High School. During his time his teams have won state championships and set and broken state records. He has served as vice president and was on the Board of the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association, received Distinguished Service Awards and Coach of the Year. In 1997 he was named to the South Carolina Coaches Hall of Fame. He was a member of Latta Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Dollie Stone Rice of the residence; two daughters, Mrs. Richard Morrell (Dollie Rice) of Latta and Mrs. Richard Scott (Margaret Rice) of Pawleys Island; and two grandsons, Austin Richard and Chandler Rice Morrell.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked for memorials to be sent to the Eddie Rice Athletic Scholarship Fund at Latta High School, 618 N. Richardson St., Latta, SC 29565.

I had the pleasure of playing football and basketball for Coach Rice ! He and Benny Hayes were two of the Best Coaches I had !

I remember his paddle ! But he only had to use it once ! I remember when I played football for him ! Great Coach and a fine man !

My sincere sympathies to the family of Coach Rice. I'm fortunate to have known him and worked with him. He was a great coach but,more important, a good man that will be missed. Thanks Coach Rice. Sincerely, Roger Bazen.
