Edith Huffard Obituary

Published by Stamford Advocate & Greenwich Time on Nov. 19, 2015.
Huffard, Edith
Huffard, Edith, Of Stamford and New Canaan, CT died Monday, November 16th. Mother of five, grandmother of 14, great grandmother of 27, Edith achieved her final goal of celebrating her 100th birthday with many family members, and died peacefully in her Edge Hill apartment, one hour later. On her terms. On her schedule. As the beloved matriarch of the large Huffard clan she inspired us with her intelligence, artistry, elegance, and above all, her enjoyment of all people and philosophies.
Born in Rutherford NJ, she fell in love with Phil Huffard, married, moved often, and settled in New Canaan in 1954 to raise their five children. Throughout her long and rich life she achieved great celebrity with her bronze and stone sculptures which enhance many art collections throughout the country. She taught us well and leaves all of us aspiring to be more like her.
Edith was predeceased by her husband, Paul Phillippi Huffard, Jr, her youngest daughter, Hilary Huffard, and her eldest son Paul Phillippi Huffard III as well as her grandson, Wick Battin Huffard. She is survived by her daughter in law, Deborah Huffard of Greenwich, CT, her son and daughter in law, Jay & Kirk Huffard of Stamford, CT, Her daughter and son in law, Hathaway and Robert Green of Boston, MA, and her daughter and son in law, Honor Stanley and Rick Gallup of Swannanoa, NC, and a much loved circle of family and friends.
Donations may be made to the Huffard Family Garden at Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, MA or the Hilary Huffard Endowment Fund at Memorial SloanKettering, in New York City.
A private family burial service was held at St. Mark's Parish on Wednesday, November 18th.

Hello Schippers & Huffard families

Condolences from Rutherford, N.J.

The parents of Edith (nee Schippers) settled at 135 and 244 Mountain Way in Rutherford, residing there the year Edith was born, 1915. Folks have asked about Edith's tie to Rutherford, which appears to be until parents Jacob and Cerise moved to Long Island in about 1919-1920, and then Connecticut. Her older bother, Jack M. Schippers, would likely have attended Sylvan School in those days.

God bless,
