Edna McDade Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 18 to Feb. 25, 2023.
On Friday, January 13, 2023, our beloved mother, Edna McDade, passed away at Northern Inyo Hospital surrounded by her family. She was 91 years old. Born at home to Swande and Lempi Kosola in Newell, SD, on June 27, 1931. She was the eleventh child of thirteen children.

Our mother grew up on the family farm. She told stories of growing up without the conveniences of indoor plumbing, electricity or telephones.

She graduated from Newell High School and soon after met and married Clarence "Mac" McDade, who was from Arkansas. He was stationed at the Air Force base in Rapid City. After a few years living in South Dakota they moved to Southern California. In 1969, they moved to Bishop, where our father worked for Union Carbide.

She was preceded in death by her husband and all her siblings. She is survived by her three children; her son, Kenneth and wife Katherine of the Philippines; daughter, Marilyn and husband Doug Greenway of Cody, Wy, Son, Charles (Jim) and wife Kari of Bishop. She had four grandchildren: James McDade, Jessica Greenway, Taleah Greenway, and Cody Himes. She had seven great grandchildren; Mikala, Michael, Daniel, Madison McDade; Sierra and Hunter Brewer and Logan Greenway.

We will miss her strength, kindness, and generosity. Many in Bishop may have seen her from her early morning daily walks around town.

No services are planned. Her ashes will be buried in Newell, South Dakota to join other family members.

Edna was one of the kindest and most welcoming people I´ve ever met. I was a kid in that Southern California neighborhood that MacDade family lived in the 1960s. She was a great neighborhood Mom and a great cook. She liked cooking for kids.
