Edward Anderson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 25, 2024.
Edward A. Anderson (1985 - 2024)

Edward Andrew Anderson, also known as Ed or Eddie, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and into the arms of the Lord on March 6, 2024 after waging a heroic year-long battle against an unyielding cancer. Throughout his courageous struggle, his determination was fueled by the profound love of those around him.

Born on May 17, 1985 and raised in Dallas, Texas, Edward spent his childhood making many friends and enjoying various sports. A natural athlete, he played soccer, street and ice hockey, cross country running and golf. He graduated from Cistercian Preparatory School in 2003 and received an offer of admission from the United States Military Academy at West Point which he excitedly accepted, joining the class of 2007. Edward served as a Military Intelligence Officer for 5 years and was honorably discharged, with the rank of Captain, in 2012 after two Afghanistan deployments.

After leaving the Army with numerous awards and medals, Edward moved to Houston in 2013 where he began his career in project management. In 2017, he met the young woman who would change his life forever - his beloved wife Rachel Jean McGrath. They were married on July 30, 2019 and on August 2, 2021, joyfully welcomed their son, Merritt Edward. In 2022 Edward took his talent to Oracle as a Director where he has left a significant impact with the content and processes he solidified.

Edward's impact extended far beyond his professional and familial roles. Described as 'the rarest of gems', his quick wit, humor, and warmth endeared him to friends and colleagues worldwide. Countless memories shared by those he touched attest to his legacy of kindness, friendship, and unwavering support. In addition to his passion for his relationships, Edward enjoyed golfing, the Dallas Stars, and exploring random topics to expand his knowledge for trivia.

Besides his wife Rachel and son, Merritt, Edward leaves behind his parents Dr. Gary and Marylynn Wesson, sister Monica Bragle (James), brother Kevin Wesson (Jennie) and their children, Jonathan and Brooklyn; mother-in-law Patty McDaniel; father-in-law Mark McGrath (Gail Singer); and brother-in-law Greg McGrath (Kaleigh) and their children, Evan, Emma, Hannah, and Cole. Additionally, Edward leaves behind extended family throughout the United States and Australia - the Andersons, Grishmans, Daniels, Hortons, McGraths, McDaniels, Wessons and Tanners.

The family would like to thank the many people and entities who have helped Edward and his family over this past year both physically, spiritually and practically. Of note: the Randy Regas family, Fr. Abbot Peter Verhalen, Gloria Hicks, Rick Figueroa, the staff of Immunocine, the medical professionals and staff at Memorial Hermann Hospital, and especially Dr. Jessica Jones.

A memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Dallas, Cistercian Abbey, 3550 Cistercian Road, Irving, Texas on Saturday, April 20th at 2:30. A reception will follow and details will be announced after the Mass.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to https://www.giveinkind.com/inkinds/U0O3F6F or https://www.cistercian.org/giving, Gift Designation: Edward (Eddie) Anderson '03 Scholarship Fund or the charity of your choice.

"Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen."

I played a beach volleyball tournament in Galveston with Ed and we won it. He might not be as tall as me but he always gave his all. He put his heart in the game and every activity he tried. He did not like to lose. I remember how passionate he was about life in general. A great man full of life left us but he will be in our thoughts.

Eddie and I were housemates during Military Intelligence school after graduating from USMA 2007. I´d never really spent time with him while we were cadets, but it was like we´d known each other for years anyway. He was a friend to all, and the world is a lesser place without him. While I am deeply sad, I am grateful for having been his friend and classmate. Be Thou At Peace.
