Edward Cheung Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 7, 2017.
CHEUNG, Edward Ka Fai
Date of Birth: Feb 28, 1963
Date of Death: March 2, 2017 (age 54)
Predeceased by father, Cheung Man Ban.
Survived by wife, Lily Lai Yee Ng; son, Elliott Yee Nok Cheung; mother, Cheung Kwan Yuk Lin; brother, Samson Ka Ngai Cheung; sister, Carey Ka Wai Cheung.

Edward was born in Hong Kong, graduating from the English Language and Literature Department at Hong Kong Baptist University. After graduation, he began doing creative work for TV channels, later moving into Chinese-language creative copy-writing for advertising agencies. He had a role in pioneering many of Hong Kong's major TV commercials in the '90s. Working for all four of the "4A" major advertising agencies in HK (but not simultaneously), his last role before emigration to Canada was as a Creative Director for one of them. After working a few years in Vancouver's advertising field, upon becoming a Canadian citizen, he moved on to work in operations for Canada Post.

On the personal side of life, Ed met his wife Lily in HK and married in 1993. In the year of 1997, he became father to Elliott. He could always be counted on to throw a Chinese proverb into every lecture, and as an avid cook and baker, his prime rib, fettuccini alfredo, and banana bread were very hot items.

A happy family man, he had many passions. Most of his friends know that he played guitar and sounded eerily like a reputable singer in HK - George Lam, or Lam Chi-cheung. An enthusiast of specialty coffee and aspiring barista, he served with love in the hospitality ministry of the Tapestry Church. He also had passions in drama, acting on stage when he was in university and recently having played the Prosecutor in the 2016 Cantonese work Caged Beasts. He could even do carpentry work - making a bench at home in hopes of building a deck set to enjoy the summer sun with his family and many friends.

Joyful, convivial, intelligent, and loving at work, at play, and in the home, he was a man very well-loved by family and friends. He now rests with God in heaven, making lattes for the angels.

His remains are to be cremated and interred at Forest Lawn Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 18th, 2017, beginning 6:00pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Home. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 19th, 2017, beginning 1:30pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Home.

Donations may be made to the family, or to the Tapestry Church.

Dear Edward,

I still cannot believe the fact that you are gone. Although we only knew each other a short period of time playing badminton, I will always miss your kindness, friendliness, and your big smile.

I'm sure you are in a better place looking over us. My deepest condolences to Lily and Elliott.

Hi Edward,

It was so shocked and sad to know you left us so early. We met about 30 years ago in Communications School with Spencer, Milka, Kenny, Kathy, a group of youngsters in their early twenties who dedicated to enter the advertising industry.

It was indeed a good memory when we were in the 80's and early 90's.

You and the best times of our happy gatherings will be ever remembered and missed.

Goodbye my friend.

Dear Edward,
We met each other in my late teens in HKBU when I were the freshman of the IB Diploma in 1983. You were one of the senior graduates of IB Diploma in HKBU, and we could meet each other in the HKBU campus though we were in the two Department of English Language and Literature and Social Work respectively. Thanks for your support at that time.
I can witness how you devoted yourself in the advertisement field and you had a role in pioneering many of Hong Kong's major advertising agencies in Hong Kong. I can still remember our gathering in Hong Kong, Mainland China and the kids were playing together in the swimming pool. Your broad smile encouraged us all the time.
Thanks for your hospitality in Vancouver in 2011 and my family of four are still looking forward to our gathering in Hong Kong again and again. Sorry to say I am too late to say Happy Birthday to you on March 1; and I would like to express my heart-felt sympathy and consolation to Lily and Elliot. We will try to take care of your mother in Hong Kong. I know you are in heaven, rest in Peace. We all miss you.

Dear Georga, that's your name Lily introduced you to me in the 90's. I remembered your kindness, humor and smile. Reading the beautiful tribute, I realized you were a true gentleman who had made impact in many lives, and I wish I had known you better. I am grateful for your love towards your family: I saw how happy, bubbly, positive and full of live Lily & Elliott were, and I know the cherished memories of you will continue to comfort and strengthen them. Yes, I too am saddened that you are gone, too fast, but I believe you are summoned by God to be with Him earlier, enjoying His presence, and watching over your loved ones. See you later in Heaven!

Pauline

His master replied, Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' Matt 25:23

Dear Georga,

How are you? I am sure you are now resting peacefully in God's arms.
We know each other for over 30 years since the years in IB. I always remember your caring and kindness like a big brother to us. We had spent so much fun and touching moment together. Words can't express my thanks to you for those days. You will be deeply missed.
Goodbye, but i believe one day we will meet again.
My deepest condolences to Lily and Elliot, may God's peace be with them.

Geoga is the nickname you introduced yourself to me from the very beginning and Fragile is my nickname created by you during our golden years in Baptist College/IB. We treated each other like siblings. As a big brother who enjoyed teasing me and treated me like a little sister who would always get hurt easily. I will always remember those silly and funny moments that we shared and the conversations we have had on the same shuttle bus rides home together from Mei Foo.

Dear Lily and Elliot, please accept my sincere and heartfelt condolences at this most difficult of times. Be proud of yourselves for having such a kindhearted and respectful husband and father. His cheerful spirit has inspired us all and he will never be forgotten.

With all my love and condolences

I will always remember you as a gentle, empathetic boss, someone who would listen, someone who I can count on for your respect and someone who will provide me with guidance and direction.

I am shocked and sad to see you go. You have touched on the lives of so many around you, and I can say that you have been an overwhelmingly positive influence for me.

See you on the other side.

March 15, 2017

We are thankful that our paths crossed at the IB program, together we enjoyed our youth. We are privileged to have you as our big brother all these years, together we relished our friendship. We didn't want to believe you have left us forever. We can only trust that you are now in good care of God. Somewhere in our hearts there will be a place for the joyful moments we had - playing volleyball, eating ice cream, camping .... You are always our dear brother no matter where you are. We miss you so much and always.

Our heartiest condolences to Lily and Elliott.

Dear Edward,

Geoga, that's how I called you and that's how Lily called you when you both were dating. I remember I was the "light bulb" all the time but you never once made me feel unwelcome. I remember you were the best tempered person I have ever known. Even when you tutored my brother you always come out of the study room with a smiley face. You will always be missed. May you continue to give strength to Lily and Elliott. May you continue to love them and bless them. May you Rest In Peace.

My deepest condolences to Lily and Elliott.

Dearest 'Jor Ga',

Words cannot describe how shocking we all are upon hearing the news. We've known one another since you and Li were dating and our kids grew up together. Your humor and laughter, your easy going nature, your voice, your caring and kindness to children will stay in our mind forever and ever. You will be greatly missed by our family but we all know we will all be reunited in heaven on day.

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.
A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to plunk up that which is planted
A time to kill and a time to heal, a time to break down and a time to to build up
A time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance...
A time to love and a time to hate, a time of war and a time of peace
What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein the laboureth?
I have seen the travail which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.
He hath made every thing in His time, also He hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

As a music group, Edward, we appreciated you bringing Lily to our practices. We shared your indefeasible efforts as Lily's chauffeur, and this endeavor had uplifted Lily music contribution immensely.

Lily will loose a bit of sparkles and bites in the not too distant future. But we are praying you will continue to support her spiritually.

Edward, we are not saying Good Bye because we will be meeting in the left rear corner of Heaven-- a place reserved for musicians!

I was shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Edward. I first met Edward when he was nine years old in 1972. He was a primary school classmate of mine. It is my privilege to have known him for 45 years. We had a lot of fun studying, taking swimming course and playing mahjong together. He is such a creative man and his way of thinking always makes everything special. I will miss his warm smile and wonderful sense of humor. Rest in Peace, my best friend.
