EDWARD R. COLBURN was born November 20, 1928 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in June 1946, and enlisted in the Navy January 1947, attending boot camp at Bainbridge, Maryland. After boot camp, he was assigned to the Naval Security Station Machine Branch, Washington, D.C. During his 20 years’ service with the Naval Security Group, he was assigned to duty stations at: Arlington Hall Station, Arlington, Virginia; Bainbridge Island, Washington; Kami Seya, Japan; NSA, Ft. Meade, Maryland; Port Lyautey, Morocco; Karamursel, Turkey; and Winter Harbor, Maine. Retiring as a Master Chief Petty Officer CTCM (O Branch) in September 1966, he moved to Largo, Florida, where he continued his public service as Manager of Operations, Pinellas County Data Processing Department (10 years), and Manager, Mid-County Tax Collector’s Office (17 years), until his retirement in November 1993. He and his wife, Doris, were married 62 years, and they have two children, Janet and Steven, four grandchildren, Eddie, Aaron, Megan, and Amanda, and one great-grandson, Gavin.
