Edward Lawrence entered God's peace March 18, 2011.
Ed Cordell was born Dec. 4, 1923 in Eagle Rock, CA to E.B. and Alice (Malone) Cordell, 3rd of four children. In December he celebrated his 87th year. As a youth in Riverside, Ed learned carpentry working with his father. He married Ida June Lockwood in 1943. From UC Berkeley Ed was called into Army service for WWII, a '90-day wonder' second Lieutenant in the Signal Corps. Ed and June (deceased) were active members of the community in Oxnard and the First Presbyterian Church.
Divorced, Ed then married Joyce Lankow. They made their home in Agoura, then Camarillo. They enjoyed camping, trips to Yosemite, square dancing, golf, bridge and especially flight. Ed built and piloted a Veri Eze. He learned to depict favorite landscapes in oil on canvas. Ed and Joyce were active in Shepherd of the Valley and later Mount Cross Lutheran church, where they sang in the choir. An engineer by education and temperament, Ed was serious, hardworking, loving, and quiet, with an understated sense of humor. He strove to lead his family to build worthy lives.
Ed is survived by his wife of 38 years, Joyce, sister Ruth Cordell Moffitt, sister-in-law Virginia Cordell; 5 children Thomas (Keri), Alice Cordell Blatchley, Daniel (Roberta), Sara (Jim Mekis), Suzanne (Pete Goodman) Scott; 10 grandchildren Matthew Cordell, Krista Cordell, Kathleen (Tim) Arscott-Mills, and Chelsea Cordell; Nathan (Jennifer) Blatchley and Abigail Blatchley; Benjamin (Laura) Cordell, Danika (Peter) Balland, and Naomi (Mark) Hoipkemier; Ann Mekis (fiance Justin Beachler) ; and 6 great-grandchildren Lauren Blatchley, Jocelyn Balland, James Arscott, Ellyse Balland, Peter and James Hoipkemier, and great-granddaughter Cordell due in April.
We are thankful for his very helpful caregivers over the last three years of his life.

A memorial service will be held at Mt. Cross Lutheran Church, 102 Camino Esplendido, Camarillo, at 2 p.m. April 2, 2011.

My heart is heavy with sorrow hearing of Ed's passing. He was such a special, warm, loving, and unique man. I have known Ed and Joyce for over 25 years meeting them when Joyce's father, Harold Lankow, Married my great aunt Helen when she was 65 yrs old. I was welcomed into the Cordell home many times and truly cherished the friendship. Me and my children were treated as family.
May God be with you, Joyce, and family during this sad time.
with love,
Candy Miller
