Edward E. Dykowski, 88, of Granger, Texas went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday December 28, 2022, at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas.
Edward was born October 1, 1934, in Granger, Texas to Edward John and Francis (Nemec) Dykowski. He graduated from Granger High School in 1952 and was proud to be a lifetime Granger Lion.
Upon graduation Edward went to work for Alcoa in Rockdale. During this time in 1956, he met the love of his life Corrine Simek at Tom Sefcik Hall in Seton. His and Corrine’s love for polka music and dancing made them a perfect match as they enjoyed tearing up the dance floor whenever they could get a chance. Edward and Corrine married November 8, 1959.
In 1957, he was drafted into the United States Army. Edward proudly served his country until 1959 having served his last year in Ft. Polk, LA serving as a Tank Commander. After leaving the Army, Edward returned to Granger and resumed his career at Alcoa where he made lifelong friends. During this time, Edward continued his employment with Alcoa adding farming, ranching, and custom harvesting of cotton and milo to his resume.
Edward retired from Alcoa after 20 years of employment to follow his passion of farming and ranching. Edward continued his farming and ranching career until his retirement in 2006. Edward was very proud of his Czech heritage. His heritage and strong work ethic instilled in him from his upbringing contributed to his success. Edward truly loved to have fun and to tell stories. He loved traveling, playing dominoes, playing cards, football, hunting, fishing, and barbecuing. He rarely met a stranger and if he did, they became fast friends. Edward and Corrine enjoyed traveling across the United States together with friends. Edward enjoyed playing dominoes and cards for many years with numerous partners. He loved watching football both college and professional and was known to make a wager or two. Edward was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Whenever Edward had spare time, you usually could catch him fishing at his cabin at Buchanan Dam or lakes nearby. Edward knew Granger Lake like the back of his hand. He practically was a guide. Edward loved to share the catch of the day with his friends. Edward and Corrine hosted many fish fries and barbeques. Edward shared his love and talent of barbecuing with his nephews.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Frances (Nemec) Dykowski; brothers, Marvin and John; sisters, Valeria Cepak and Doris (Leonard) Lane; sister-in-laws, Lorraine Garden, Geraldine Henry; and brother-in-law, Alvin Simek.
Edward is survived by his wife of 63 years, Corrine; his sister, Joan (Ernest) Rister; sister-in-law, Liz Dykowski; sister-in-laws, Ann Harper, Marjorie (Orvil) Harper; brother-in-law, Albert (Donna) Simek; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews. Ed, we had some good times during our school days at Granger High School as well as sitting on the front fenders of Raymond Hajda's '34 Chevy/or Ford shooting rabbits at night up and down the road to Laneport and back. May you have joy in Heaven with our former classmates who also said good-bye to us in past years.

Ed was truly a great man. He and my Uncle Norman were friends, so over the years I was blessed to know him and Corrine. Both were always so sweet to visit with me any time we ran into each other. He will be dearly missed

My favorite story from Ed: He and his wife were touring in Czechoslovakia during the time the TV series "Dallas" was so famous world wide. No European would know this tall American cowboy (wearing a 10 gallon cowboy hat) would know the Czech language... He overheard some Czech citizens talking in the Czech language. These folks were wondering "Who shot J.R.?" Ed blurted out in the Czech language: "I SHOT J.R.!!!!
Ed was a generous man and would help you in any way he could. I am glad I got to see him in the Bartlett rest home when I visited another good Granger "boy" about 3 weeks ago. Joe Blackmon

Our most sincere condolences to Corrine and family at the passing of "Big Ed". We farmed with Big Ed, Lil Ed, John & Karen, and made some of the best memories. Big Ed was a bit quiet, but jovial at the same time. Fun to 'pick on', took it like a champ, and picked right back. He enjoyed Henry playing the accordion at our evening gatherings at John & Karen's house. Such fond memories. You are in our thoughts & prayers during this very difficult time.
May he rest in peace, until we meet again.
Love & hugs,

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Dykowski family during this difficult time. Over the years, you all have been great neighbors and friends to my dad and mom. I always enjoyed witnessing good friends, conversations and welcoming waves as I was growing up with my dad and mom there in Granger.

There is no way we can thank you Ed for taking care of Mom when Dad died. The many talks and visits we had when we were taking card of Mom's house, we thoroughly enjoyed. Your presence was a God send. I wish Anne and I were in better health so we could attend the funeral. We will pray for you.
