Edward Hendrix Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 15, 2024.
Edward Dean Hendrix, affectionately known as "Ed or Eddie" to his loved ones crossed the final finish line on February 26, 2024, at the age of 59. Born a true Cornhusker in Lincoln, Nebraska, on December 20, 1964, he was an adventurer from the start. Ed's journey took him to the sunny shores of Ventura, CA, where he eventually parked his boots.

From a young age, Ed was more at home in nature than anywhere else - he spent his days adventuring with the Boy Scouts, camping, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, and also on the wrestling mats and on the gridiron.

A graduate of Buena High school Class of '83, Ed built a life as strong and supportive as the beams and bridges he helped craft with the International Union of Operating Engineers, of which he was a proud retiree.

His family, friends and neighbors will remember Ed as the man who could fix anything, always willing to lend a tool or a helping hand, his can-do attitude and generous spirit were his trademarks. He could always bring people toghether when he fired up the bbq, it was more than just a perfectly cooked tri-tip or the juiciest chicken you've ever had, to him it was a way to create memories and show his love to the people around him.

Wrapped up in Ed's heart, is his cherished wife Lori Martinez-Hendrix, his co-pilot sons Vince and Cody, along with his pride-and-joy grandson Adam. His team extended to his mother Carol and Partner Tim, and his partner in crime sister Holly and her sons Jordan and Brandon. Also his sister Barbara Cruz and family. He is preceded in passing by his father Walter Rex Hendrix who was undoubtedly there to greet him at the checkered flag.

A celebration of Ed's life will be held at Ventura Missionary Church, 500 High Point Dr. Ventura, CA, on April 13th at 11:30 AM.

In memory of Edward Dean Hendrix, the garage may now be quieter but the light he left on, for late night tinkering, heart to heart chats, or just because will forever glow illuminating his ultimate victory. Your legacy will forever fuel the hearts of those you have touched.

My sister just told me yesterday about his passing, We had a mutual friend named Rick. Eddie and I raced his car against my 69 Chevelle down the 33 frwy back in the day. I think we were both in Ricks wedding? I will have to pull the pictures to see if Eddie was? After reading the obituary, we had a lot in common. Sorry for your loss.

"Only the Good Die Young" Ed proved this to be true. My family and I first met Ed and his family back in 96 or 97 when our kids played roller hockey together at Skating Plus. Ed and my husband Kevin also played on a roller hockey team together in Oxnard. They shared many of the same interests including the love of restoring classic cars. They spent many hours at Kevins shop talking cars. Kevin would always simply say " I enjoy Ed." When Kevin passed away in 2022, Ed was so thoughtful and kind to bring over his wonderful tri-tip meal that he made (all homemade). ED was a kind, gentle natured man with a big heart that we will miss. May God Bless and watch over you always Lori and family. Colleen, Ryan, Lauren and Aiden
