It has been several months now since the passing of dr. leitao and we can't help but think of how he is still truly missed. We have found another doctor, who is good, but no one will replace Dr. Ed. He always made you feel confident that whatever your ailment, he would make it better. We will always remember him fondly and are grateful for having the chance to meet this fantastic man in our lifetime

I only discovered yesterday when I made a phone call to a specialist and asked whether a referral was needed and mentioned my doctor's name, that he had passed away.I was shocked and very sad to hear this news. My thoughts on Dr. Leitao echo what many others have said. He was caring compassionate, took his time with you when you needed it and very knowledgeable.

I discovered that he had gone to school in Boston when I mentioned that my son had gone to school there and still resides there. We had a good and very humorous conversation about the city and his time there.

While all his patients will miss him, I can only begin to imagine what a loss this is to his family.

Dear Mrs. Leitao and family, I just learned today of the loss of your husband and father. I am grieving for you. He was my doctor and of all the wonderful things that have been said in other entries I can only add that he literally saved my life. He cared enough to listen to me and provide help that kept me from taking my own life. I'll grieve too for a long time. Prayerfully, Maureen McIntyre

As has been stated by others, I too have just learned of the passing of the kindest, most heartwarming person I have ever met.... Not only was he my doctor but my friend. We discussed my ailments, my treatments my life and his life.. I am saddened by the loss of this wonderful and caring person, but I am glad that I had the good fortune of knowing him... all of my visits would end with a handshake. My last visit was on July 26th and after the exam I was asked ( as always ) whats new? He was always interested in what was going on in my life. We discussed my upcoming retirement and his retirement which was much farther away than mine.... We talked about his selection of careers and how concerned he was that his career took him away from his family and children and all the on call times he had to endure....I am truly sorry for your loss of husband and father, and truly sorry that I only knew him as a friend when medical reasons called. No words can describe the feeling that you had when you left after a visit with Doctor Leitao......Be not sad for your loss but be proud he was your husband/father, and you had the one of the best caring persons I have ever known in your famly.......

I would like to express my deepest sympathy about the passing of Dr. Leitao to all of his family, friends, co-workers and patients. I truly consider finding Dr. Leitao one of the happiest accidents in my life. I moved to the Pittsburgh area about 10 years ago and as with most Pittsburghers in the winter-time, contracted a really bad cold. I needed a doctor and chose him simply because he was the closest one to me. Our first meeting was truly remarkable because I remember calling my sister and telling her all about him. I said, “You won’t believe it, he knows everything and explains everything – from practically the beginning of time.”

I knew I had truly lucked out to find a doctor who cared about my feelings and took the time to explain the importance of taking all my medication or curing my illness, or how I had possibly contracted my allergies, or whatever. I liked him so much. Not being from this area and not knowing whom to trust, I was so fortunate to have stumbled upon his name.

I recall not too long ago telling Dr. L that I was looking into buying a new car. He asked me what I was currently driving because he was interested in buying a car for his son. I don't know why that sticks out in my mind, but I guess I just thought it was so nice that he could be a doctor, a dad and a friend all at the same time. I guess that's why we all liked him and why we'll all miss him so terribly. I just love happy accidents.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Rabold

Leitao Family: Dr. Leitao was a deeply caring, competent and trusted physician. He was quick to explain every issue, to answer every question and was a calming energy. I can't imagine anyone being a better doctor. I know my sadness can't compare with the hole in your heart, but perhaps sharing your loss with so many of the people he touched may lighten your burden ever so slightly. He did much "good" in the world.

I called Dr. Leitao's office this morning to request a referal to a specialist with whom I have an appointment tomorrow. I have never in my life been more shocked - to learn of his death. I'm 82 and never miss the death notices unless I'm out of town which explains why I didn't learn until today. I've just read the 7 pages of guest book messages which reveal that Dr. Leitao has inspired in so many others the respect and confidence he has inspired in me. What an incredible loss! I was grateful for his youth - confident he would outlive me so I'd never have to lose his wisdom and skill.

Dear Mrs. Leitao and Family,

When our daughter was killed suddenly six years ago, Dr. Leitao was wonderfully compassionate, attentive, concerned and insightful in helping my wife and me deal with depression and some grief-induced medical problems. He was not only a skilled physician, but also a profoundly good man. We will surely pray for you in your own sudden tragedy now. Perhaps it will help you to know how many of us respected, revered and, yes, loved him.

Dear "Mrs. Ed." We are so sorry. We had made a call to speak with Dr. Ed at the office when we received this news. We are still in disbelief that Dr. Ed has passed. He was truly a caring and an incredibley knowledgeable person. We both enjoyed our visits with him. Frank especially became very fond of Dr. Ed with his understanding and always having an ear to listen and help with whatever issue he needed to discuss and at any time. We will miss him so much. Not only as a Dr. but as the friend he became. Your family will be in our prayers.

To the Family of Dr. Leitao:

Our deepest sympathies. We were shocked to learn of his passing. He was a very kind, gentle, and caring physician. He has been there when needed and has helped us with many difficult decisions. He took my husband on as a patient and has helped get his diabetes under control. He will truly be missed by all. This world has lost a very compassionate physician. That is something that is very rare. He spoke many times of his children and always asked about your families. He and I spoke many times about our children and asthma and what was up and coming in the world of medicine. I don't beleive that there will ever be another physician like him. May God Bless you in your time of sorrow.

I am deeply saddened and shocked by Dr Leitao's passing. I am a physician and felt a special connection with him as we shared our experiences as doctors. Seeing him was always a positive , uplifting experience and his compassion for myself and all his patients was so evident as he spent

a great deal of time being an empathic, active listener and also was extremely knowledgeable. I will miss him as he has by far been the best pcp i have ever had

My wife was equally touched by the fact that he would make himself available to help on a moments notice and fondly remembers how she walked in one day and was seen almost immediately in her time of need . I am deeply sorry for his family and will keep them in my thoughts as I know their loss is truly profound.

As I read all the wonderful entries into Dr. Leitao's guest book I too want to voice my opinion about his practice. He was my doctor for several years and was extremely informative on health matters and was a helping hand in enabling us to adopt our son over 2 years ago. Dr. Leitao was a truly warm, compassionate, friendly and caring man.I absolutely adored him and was shocked to hear of his passing. My love and prayers go to the Leitao family.Believe me,we all are experiencing your loss.

I just found out today about Dr. Leitao, and was in shock. As with the other many people who signed this guest book, I feel the same about him. He also was my doctor for several years, and before him, I had a hard time finding a doctor that I liked. He DID treat you like you were the only patient he had. Time was never an issue with him. If you needed him, he was there. I don't even know what else to say, as everyone feels the same way about him. To the Leitao family, you have my DEEPEST sympathy, and will be in my prayers. God now has one of the finest angels to watch over you!! God bless you all.

To the Leitao Family,

I was shocked and deeply saddened when I heard about Dr. Leitaeo today. I must tell you how deeply sorry I am for your loss. Dr. L was such a great man, I trusted him completely and as everyone has written here, he spent quality time with his patients and I am sorry that it meant time spent away from his family but it meant my life to me. When I first started to see Dr. L it was quite by accident as Dr. Popovich was on vacation. I went because my asthma was bothering me but Dr. L being his observant self, noticed something else, I had a very under active thyroid. Dr. L noticed that my thyroid was, as he said, well defined. This just from seeing not feeling. I had no clue and once I began treatment I felt so much better. I was a devoted follower ever since. Then I found a lump in my breast and when I called my gynecologist they could not be bothered for eight weeks! Of course I called Dr. L and was seen by him the next day. Yes, I had breast cancer but thanks to Dr. L and his follow through with everyone, making certain that I was seen by a surgeon and a diagnostic mammogram and sonogram ASAP, I am here today. This man will be greatly missed by me and I am tearful as I write this because I don't think that I ever thanked him enough for my health. So I want you, his family to know how grateful I am for him and thank you for allowing him to spend his time with us, his patients. DR, Leiteao will be greatly missed by all and my thoughts and prayers go to you his loving family.

Dear Mrs. Leitao, Samantha, Jeremy and Drew - Your Dad and Husband was the best. Wow, was I shocked to learn of his passing today when I went in for my B12 shot. I was out of town last week and hadn't heard this very sad news. Dr. Leitao was a great listener, an encyclopedia of medical information, a very matter of fact this is how it should be done, confident physician. As a young woman with a chronic illness, Dr. Leitao always provided encouragement and understanding. Gosh, I'll miss him dearly. I'm so sorry that his physical being won't be here to hug, hold and love all of you. But, his spirit will echo in each of you until you meet again. One very grateful patient. May Jesus hold your broken hearts in the palm of His hand today and every day and help you through this very difficult time.

Dear Family of Dr. Leitao,

How sad we are for your loss. Dr. L. was a magnificent man and doctor and his people skills, his caring in a profession that can be unparalleled in its demands was marvelously unique. You, Mrs. L and you his children, must be wondrous indeed, for to know Dr. L even a little was to know how he loved and cherished you. Dr. E, made a huge difference in the quality of my mother's life after her life altering stroke and he dearly helped my sister's mother-in-law in her dying time so we will always remember him with great gratitude and affection. Since he took so much time with his patients, I know that meant less time with you. I'm sure I could not be as generous. May you find comfort in knowing what a difference your husband and father made in the lives of thousands of others and may he now, in heaven, shower you with his love and may you feel him doing that in a different way. Please know that we pray that you feel the dear Lord blessing you and may you feel Him and many others hugging you tight at this very sad time and for always. The Ross, Hughes and Marusak Families

My daughter Amy and I are so very saddened. We cannot say enough about this kind and gentle man - he always had time to sit with you and explain things, even drawing pictures. Our prayers are with his family.

Dr. Leitao was one of the best doctors my husband & I have ever known! We were very fortunate to have him in our lives! We totally trusted his opinion & knowledge! He was very comfortable to talk to & had alot of insight into people, life & medicine! I know he will be desperately missed in our family! Our love & prayers go out to his family! We will keep his loved ones in our hearts!

Sincerely,

Mary & Tom
