Edward Roman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 20, 2023.
Edward Walter Roman, 69, of Hinckley, passed at his home on December 18, 2023 after a hard-fought battle with dementia.

Ed was born to Edward and Doris on November 10, 1954. The oldest of six, he grew up in Sagamore Hills before graduating from Nordonia High in 1973. As the first in his family to attend college, he earned his Bachelor's Degree from John Carroll in 1977.

Ed served the public during his decades-long career in law enforcement, assuming many roles such as firearms instructor, undercover officer, K-9 handler, and detective.

From his youth well into retirement, he could often be found on the range, in his garage, or exploring the open roads on his motorcycle. His other interests included history, movies, and keeping up with the events of the world.

Those who were fortunate to have known Ed will miss his wisdom, humor, warmth, and devotion to others. Despite the weight of his illness, he faced it head-on with positivity and strength, and remains an inspiration to all who were with him along the way.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda, his children Jennifer and Charles, his siblings Carol (David), John (Debra), Alan, Lori, and Maura (Thomas), and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A mass will be held at St. Barnabas Catholic Parish in Northfield on December 30 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation the preceding hour.

He will be inurned during a private ceremony at Hillcrest Cemetery in Bedford Heights.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Harmony Hospice in Beachwood may be made in his name.

My first memory of Ed was meeting him as a Special Deputy. He and I pulled many details together back in the day when the Sheriff had as many 40 of us and we did a lot of PR work for him.
We both went full time and I´m sure he enjoyed it as much as I did.
RIP Brother

My first memory of Eddie was seeing him skipping down the high stairs of the John Carroll student center, in his black leather jacket, blonde hair and big smile:) He was cool. We became great friends. It was 1974.
So sentimental is the memory of Ed's immense kindness. I had had a life crisis and moved in with my mom. We had no money. It was the day before Thanksgiving, 1988. There was a knock on the door and there was Eddie standing there with stuffed bags of groceries..mom and I never forgot his helping hand, not ever.
One of my favorite activities with Ed, again, the day before Thanksgiving, was when we schemed to get tattoos without our parents knowing. We went to Columbus (getting tattooed was different back then), and Ed emerged with a gorgeous and colorful dragon from upper arm to elbow! I chickened out lol.
Ed was very serious about his work, wearing many different hats in law enforcement. And the dogs! Those magnificent shepherds!! He trained and lived with his beautiful police dogs:)
Another special memory was being with Eddie's family at son Charles' graduation party. Linda threw a bash!! Proud parents, for sure!
What I learned from Eddie was how to be wild! He had an insouciant, big personality and an infectious smile..
Eddie loved my mom and she loved him. Always that wonderful laughter!
Our friendship spanned 50 years.. I was so fortunate to have had Eddie in my life. Rest in peace in heaven with God! Love you Ed!

My first memory of Edwards when I was introduced to him at John Carroll University in the lunchroom while a commercial was being played above a speaker in the ceiling talking about "Fast Eddie and the boys at the audio warehouse" in Akron. At the same time, someone said to me, "This is Ed Roman".... I immediately shook his hand and said "hey Fast Eddie....how ya doin? The name stuck and that´s what I called him for the past 50 years. He called me Movin´ Mark in tern. Thanks to Ed, I survived four years of college with him along with his black leather jacket. We felt like the rebels of the school. Because of his great attention to detail, I was able to get through accounting class as we did our accounting homework every Tuesday night together, to get through that difficult task, and then we would either have a few beers or go to a movie to relieve all the stress. Ed was intelligent, a good listener, compassionate,. He loves fast cars, had a great knowledge of the tools of his trade which were the guns that he had to use on the job. He was a great storyteller as he would relate to me all the crazy things that happened growing up with his brothers and surviving the streets of Northfield. I will miss him terribly. I knew him all the way up to the time he passed. One of those great things I learned about Ed was to be a better listener. I hope someday we can meet again down the road to continue the adventure.

I met Eddy during the summer of 1981 when I was discharged from the military. We were definitely bros and had great times and laughs together. We shared many common interests over the years and developed a deep bond. I offer my sincere condolences to Linda, Jenny, and Charles. He now is resting in peace after a long and painful struggle. Go easy and adios my brother.
