It has been a year now since Dad has passed. It has been tough on everyone who depended on him for advice, as a sounding board, and his (bad) sense of humor. I do know that he would have been proud of everything his family has accomplished in the last year, especially his grandchildren - with much more to come. He will be missed at his their graduations this year, but he will be there in spirit. Love you Dad.

Although I knew my father as the woodworker, IT expert, repairman, landscaper, and perfectionist, I never really understood the impact he had on others. I was honored to be able to go to Indiana Tech with him, on what would be his last day of teaching. Even then, students and peers alike came up and introduced themselves and noted what a wonderful teacher he was, and how he motivated them. I am very glad to have this memory of him.
I am also thankful that he had developed great relationships with my children, his grandchildren. He was able to relate to, and find common ground with both of them.
As I have read through the other messages and met some of the many people who came by to visit during his last days, I am even more proud to be his son.
He will be greatly missed by all of us.

Ed was a wonderful person who cared about his students. He encouraged me to go after my Master's Degree, and was instrumental in my achievement. He often related personal experiences to the material he taught in the classroom. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. He loved teaching and it was evident every time he walked into a classroom. He was not only my teacher, he was my friend.

All,
I send my deepest condolences to you. I remember when I first met Ed. I was a student at Indiana Tech and it was the first night of class. Back then, you couldn't miss or you were booted. My babysitter canceled and I was in a panic. It was my last class before graduation. I couldn't hardly miss it and cause a delay for myself. I loaded my daughter up and headed to class. When I got there the guard stopped me at the door. Determined to get to class, I grabbed my daughter and dashed to the 3rd floor. I was so out of breath but Ed understood my dedication. He allowed me to sign-in to avoid being counted absent. I got the material I needed and he told me to go on home and come back the following week without my child. God bless his soul. So many others would have booted me but he understood. Most recently I became an adjunct at Indiana Tech and I've learned a lot from him over the years. I strive to show just as much compassion with my students. So glad I had the chance to meet Ed and work with him. He will be missed by many!
Kind Regards,
Amy Davis

Throughout my life, I have always looked forward to seeing my grandparents When I was growing up, we didn't get to see them that often because we were all the way in California. Every time we would travel out to Fort Wayne, I would coop myself up in my Grandfathers workshop making something with him, learning from him, and hearing his great stories that were always intertwined with valuable life lessons.
These past couple years have been the greatest time of my life, because I got to really know him as the person he truly is; one of a kind. When I stayed for the past two summers in Rochester, he drove eight hours to come and see me for a weekend each summer. Those two weekends were the most fun, enlightening, and awesome moments my life. We traversed the entirety of Upstate NY together, finding every museum and historical site to converse over, while never missing a chance to get an ice cream cone. During each of the long drives, we would talk the whole time about each others projects and how we could improve them, technology, family history, random history, his life story (we both really like history, I guess that is why we got along so well), all the while, cracking stupid jokes, that the three Ed's are famous for.
There were numerous other times I got to see him in the past couple years as well, each time, I gained more and more respect for my Grandfather. He always did the right thing, never said no to helping someone, and always, always made me a better person.
I will forever cherish these last couple years I had with my Grandfather. It was an amazing experience getting to really know him and upon reflection I am so glad I had the chance to.
I honestly don't know what else to write about him, because no words can quantify the impact that he had on me and my life.
I love you Grandpa.
Have fun up in Space, I know you will.

Ed was an amazing man. He taught Junior Achievement in my classroom for 18 years, and over that time he became a dear friend. He was so incredibly faithful and effective--and really lit up in "teacher-mode". He obviously LOVED working with the kids, and he never tired of all their second and third grade questions and off-the-wall comments. He gave of himself year after year, and the kids learned so much more from him than what was intended. He will be be irreplaceable in my heart and in my classroom--truly one of a kind!!!

Ed had such an impact on so many. One of his many legacies can be seen through the many students who were touched by his enthusiasm and dedication. We are all better and blessed to have known Ed. Thinking of his many family and friends.

My dear friend Ed
Great minds have purposes, and yours was one of the greatest minds I have ever encountered. Your purpose in life was not only to love your wife, kids, and grandchildren. It was also to share your love, passion and knowledge with your JA kids, and your students. You gave them more than what comes from books, you taught them to be honorable like you, to be compassionate like you, to have make some difference like you. I am so blessed to have known you and call you colleague, associate, but most of all, my dear friend. Will miss you Ed, love ya bro!

Ed was a strong, motivational and inspirational man. He was the first to volunteer to help when a student or a colleague was in need. I admit, I leaned on him a lot in my first years at Tech...he made time to answer questions and support whenever needed. He will be missed...he is missed already. But what a blessing he was to so many...if we could all be just like him.

I will never forget your words and speech to our last MBA Business Management class...with tears in your eyes, you said "You may have noticed I've lost 15lbs in the last several weeks. I have found that I have stage 4 pancreatic cancer, so I won't see any of you at graduation. I want to tell you this: THINK for yourselves, don't let ANYONE tell you how to think. You just do not know how long you will be around! I have taught here 17 years, and this is my last class. Goodbye and Goodnight."
We had no idea, everyone was speechless... Thank you, for making such an impact on all the lives you touched.
