Edward Victor Rygiel, 98, of Tempe left this earth on February 28, 2016. Ed was born in Chicago to Izadore and Anna Rygiel on November 3, 1917. In early childhood the family moved to the farming community of Stanley, WI . After high school Ed served for five years in the U.S. Army. He was deployed to the World War II effort in the Pacific theatre. After being honorably discharged in 1945, he married the love of his life, Frances Dobiesz. Their marriage was destined to last for 66 years. The couple moved to Eau Claire, WI where Ed spent his career with the U.S. Post Office and Ed and Fran raised five children. He also found time to get an associate's degree in accounting at the Eau Claire Vocational School. He was also a power-hitter for area softball teams In 1972 Ed and Fran and their three youngest children relocated to Tempe, AZ. Ed continued to serve his country with involvement in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and The American Legion. He also started a second career in real estate. Ed is preceeded in death by his wife Fran, his parents Izadore and Anna, his brothers Bill and Joe and his sister Jennifer Hain. He is survived by his brother, Stanley and his five children Mary Rygiel, Edward Rygiel, Jr., Charlie (Teresa) Rygiel, Peggy Rygiel and Joe (Donna) Rygiel; three grandchildren Jessica (Tony) Martinez, Christa (Brent) Struckmeyer and Lauren Rygiel; one great-grandson Carter Struckmeyer and soon-to-arrive great granddaughter Caroline Struckmeyer Arrangements are entrusted to Tempe Mortuary. Funeral services will be private with internment with military honors at Queen of Heaven Cemetery on March 4, 2016 at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley. Their extraordinary care and compassion for Ed will be forever appreciated by the family.
