Hampton – Edward Louis Willett, 82 of Hampton Towne Estates, died January 23, 2023 at the Exeter Hospital with his family at his bedside.
He was born March 7, 1940 in Exeter the son of the late Cornelius and Margaret (McKone) Willett.
He was a graduate of Exeter High School and a graduate of the University of New Hampshire. Ed went on to become a passionate educator and taught for over 38 years in Many schools including, Lincoln Academy, Livermore Falls, Gorham and in Portland Public Schools, all in Maine. He inspired his students to think critically and independently, to defend their opinions, and they readily sought his counsel. He was proud to have maintained contact with them over the decades. He was often heard to say “you need to be who you are”. He was admired by many, and loved by all. One could not help but to love him.
He was part of a very tight knit family, that is unique in the level of support and respect maintained by all, for one another. New acquaintances quickly become family members and there is no escape, nor any desire to do so. He could laugh at himself and that life was too short to take yourself too seriously.
Edward was predeceased by his parents and his brother Paul, and brother Robert (Ozzie) Willett.
Family members include his sister, Mary Goss of Exeter, her daughter, Jennifer Goss of Greenland, brother John and his wife, Barbara of Norway, ME, sister-in-law, Marilyn Willett of Exeter and his close cousin and caregiver, Jack McKone of Hampton, along with many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter on March 11th from 11AM-1PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.Alz.org or ACLU at www.aclu.org. Burial will be private.

Mister Willett, you were the one teacher who although compete opposite of me in most aspects of life gave me hope. You cared when others did not. You supported an open mind and truly respected alternative opinions. Your life lessons I will never forget and your kindness to me when I was a vulnerable and insecure teen was so needed. I just wish I could have told you I made it. Married to my best friend and most beautiful woman in the world. Have four happy and healthy children and traveled the world. I am one of your success stories! I love you sir and will always miss you. Semper Fidelis

Ed was my teacher first and then became a dear and lifelong friend. He was a brilliant teacher, a kind man and a truly generous soul. He loved teaching, and he approached all of his students with the same respect, compassion and understanding. He also had a great laugh. Ed was the kind of teacher that changes the lives of countless students over the years. I am very fortunate to have been one of them.

I was so fortunate to have Mr. Willett as a teacher at LFHS. He was funny and very engaging. He's the reason I became a high school English teacher.

What a caring and impactful life! By happenstance, we ran into each other in the grocery store years after he was my teacher and it was a delightful surprise because of the connection first he made with me as a student! Lots of love to his family and all who knew him.
