Edward Wishart Obituary

Edward Folkland Wishart

Nov. 30 1936-June 3 2023

Except for being born in Martinez California, Ed was a proud Nevadan, graduating from Yerington High School and The University of Nevada, and after receiving his PhD from Florida State University returning to a 35-year teaching career at The University of Nevada, Reno. During his tenure at UNR, he taught Mathematics, and was instrumental in establishing the Computer Science Department.

Ed was in many respects a Renaissance man, with an inquiring mind, and an interest in how things work, such as an award-winning winemaker, a private pilot who flew a PA-12 and later a Cessna 182, and a clockmaker who built clocks from scratch for the whole family. As an avid steam engine enthusiast, he was happiest in his shop building live-steam trains and traveling to many tracks from Arizona to Oregon for meetups. He was always the family and neighborhood handyman too. Ed loved his family and enjoyed getting together for family dinners and celebrations.

He was a thoughtful, proud father and grandfather to his son Michael, Christina and her children Nolan and Sammie, and his son Eric, Karen, and their children Rachel and Addy. His brother, George also survives. His faithful canine companion, Keno, is at a loss. Ed and his wife Kathy, who survives, shared sixty years of marriage.

A celebration of his life well lived is pending; email [email protected] for further details.
