Edwin Gonzalez Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 1, 2024.
Edwin Gonzalez, born August 4, 1946 in San Juan, PR to late parents Maria Olmo and Juan Gonzalez, passed away peacefully at Garnett Medical Center, Middletown, NY at the age of 78 on Sunday, October 27, 2024.

Eddie is survived by older brother John Gonzalez and predeceased by younger brothers Julio and Jose Gonzalez.

Beloved father; In birth order, to Shana Hutchins, Lavonne Velez, and Nadeen Gonzalez-Blackwell. Grandfather to nine; In birth order, to Brandon Rodriguez, Chloe Vargas, Jimmy Vargas, Danny Jr. Velez, Alexandra Hutchins, Christopher Hutchins, Jamel Blackwell, Justice Blackwell, Giana Velez, and Julian Velez. Great Grandfather to Leilani Velez. Beloved Father-in-law to Danny Velez and Jermaine Blackwell.

Eddie took pride and relished in his family by having family gatherings, barbecues, vacations. Although divorced he loved his first wife, Ana Maria Menendez dearly. Always visiting and vacationing at her home, they remained the best of friends. He was always classy in manner and dapper in style. No matter what he did, he always gave 110% in everything. He undoubtedly loved being surrounded by his family and close friends.

Eddie worked tirelessly and advocated to those needing to provide child support for their families for over 30 years working with the City of Bridgeport court system as a Child Support Enforcement Officer. He also worked overnights giving back to the community at a drug rehabilitation center as head counselor where he retired from both places in 2009.

In 2020, Eddie was diagnosed with the debilitating disease of Parkinson's and Aphasia but this did not stop him from being a larger than life human being, always caring for everyone and making sure family was a priority.

A larger than life human being, an incredible smile and the hugs we always received, the fond memories of all these things we will carry forever. Rest in Peace dear father, brother, friend.

Please contact his daughters on FB regarding information on memorial service. Thank you all for your kind words and pictures of our father.

Eddie I can't believe you've left us. I worked with Eddie at Child Support in Bridgeport. Eddie and I became very very good friends over the years. When I had open heart surgery in 2009 he was there for me, visiting me at the hospital and at my home. We always went for cocktails on Fridays after work at either Ralph & Richies or Carmelinas. Eddie may God give you eternal rest, and may God give comfort and consolation to your Family. I miss you.

I am Jermaine Blackwell son in law married to his daughter Nadeen Gonzalez- Blackwell. We lived with Eddie G for a time some years back and we used to have some real conversations when he would get off from his night job. He would share things that were going on in his life and I would listen and tell him what was going on in mine and he would listen and give me advice. Loved Eddie G for that I´m gonna miss you S.I.P.
Love
Jermaine

I have several memories about Eddie. I remember him being a great friend/brother to my father (Ronnie). I remember him loving the sport of boxing and hosting many fight nights. So many great times and so many laughs. And he definitely loved his daughters. You will be missed uncle Eddie.
