Eileen "Ei" Patricia Arnold Smith

also known in her craft as Lady Cara

Eileen "Ei" Patricia Arnold Smith, age 79, of Bascom, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025.

She was born on October 28, 1945, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Ethel Louise Maryanne Swanson Cerullo and Robert Sumter Arnold.

Eileen lived a vibrant life filled with passion, purpose, and deep love for her family and community. She was a woman of many talents and careers, working as a multiple business owner, realtor, author, tarot card reader, hairdresser, and teacher of the Wiccan craft. She also earned an Associate's Degree in Entomology.

In 1975, she began her journey in the Wiccan Craft, where she rose to the esteemed position of High Priestess by the late 1970s. Known as Lady Cara within her community, she guided many with wisdom and compassion. Beyond her spiritual work, Eileen was a world traveler, an astute Democrat, and a fierce activist for equal rights. She dedicated her life to standing up for justice and protecting the Earth, proudly embracing the title of "Tree Hugger." She had a special love for animals-especially frogs-and found joy in reading, writing, drawing, political debates, and staying engaged with the world around her. She was also a very proud Viking-Irishwoman.

Eileen previously resided in Pembroke Pines, Florida, before making her home in Bascom.

She is survived by her beloved sister Catherine and beloved children, daughter Maryanne Eileen Leon Leger and her husband Joseph Leger, and son Dennis Brian Smith and his fiancée Tanya Karkella Grobman. She was a proud grandmother to six: Amber Garofolo and her husband Joseph, Peter Leger and his wife Nichole, Jason Leger and his wife Candace, Matthew Leger and his wife Nikki, Justin Leger and his wife Rochelle, and Sean Smith and his wife Bri. Her legacy continues through her eighteen great-grandchildren: Anthony, Avion, Amaya, Aaliyah, Layla, Aubree, Kayleigh, Jason Jr., Charlie, Brenden, Justin Jr., Nolan, Jazelle, Maci, Vincent, Alyse, Joseph, and Presley.

Eileen will be remembered for her wisdom, strength, and unwavering dedication to her beliefs and her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and inspiration that will continue to guide all who knew her.

We met in 1980 when I was a freshly minted HPS and we kept in touch throughout the years. Merry to have met, sadly to part, but merry to meet again.
