Eileen Tully Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 18, 2017.
In loving memory of Eileen L. Tully (nee Hiebert), born in Winkler, Mantioba, in 1921, passed away on May 17, 2017.

Eileen is survived by her son Steven; daughter Charlene Guyot, (Dennis); grandchildren Matthew, Christian, Brendan and Reald, and their families, including seven great-grandchildren.

Predeceased by her loving husband of over 70 years, Charles; sister Marion; and her brother Ron.

Mom always enjoyed singing, in church and high school choirs, and after graduation in the Daniel MacIntyre Alumni Choir and later in the St. Vital United Church Choir for many years.

She worked as a movie usher when she was young, loving the musicals and ran a Deanna Durbin fan club.

Mom and Dad married in 1942, with Dad serving in the navy during the war years. This meant long separations and many long train trips to and from Halifax and Winnipeg.

First and foremost a caring wife and mother and home maker, Mom enjoyed cooking, baking, providing many special meals, and Sunday suppers for her family over the years. Mom also worked secretarial duties in an office and later at home as a typist for the law court recorder.

She was a great help to Dad building and maintaining the family cottage at Hillside Beach. She was active in her church for many years including knitting projects that continued into her last years. Mom enjoyed aiding in the care of her four grandchildren in their early years. Mom and Charlene were close through the years, spending time together with the grandchildren and later tea and chats, which were very enjoyable.

Later, she and Dad enjoyed over twenty years of winter trips to Hawaii and holidays in other parts of the U.S.A and Western Europe. Mom was the guidebook expert for bus and train routes, hotels, restaurants, local attractions and directions.

Their last years together they maintained a warm and welcoming home, their son visiting regularly for Mom's cooking. Eventually old age and illness separated them, with Dad passing away at Deer Lodge and now, about three years later, Mom joining him.

Cremation has taken place, and she will join her husband Charles in St. Vital Cemetery at a private ceremony in the coming days.

Our thanks go to the caring staff at Vista Park Lodge and Victoria Hospital.
