Can't believe Elaine is no more! She was a great Scientist, a colleague who was fun to work with, and a caring person. A lot of memories to cherish.

Dear Elaine, you loved the water, you loved dogs, you loved adventure, you loved nature, you loved to laugh. Our best times were when all those things came together. I´ll miss you terribly. It was a privilege to be your friend. Teresa

Elaine and I met in High School and became close friends. I was recently reminiscing and browsing through our HS yearbooks, when I came across a note Elaine wrote our senior year (excerpt) ".... college will be fun, but I´ll never forget the fun I had with you in high school ... please come and visit! (and, yes, I did visit)." We always had a great time together! Elaine was genuinely kind, easygoing, gracious and so FUN. Her contagious smile could brighten any room! We stayed in touch through college and over the years, but life and geography often got in the way. A few years ago, we rekindled our friendship (so to speak), which was an incredible blessing. We met for Peet´s Coffee dates, long walks, kayaking in Tahoe, and the epic, unforgettable Ed Sheeran concert. I will never forget the meaningful conversations we shared about life, family, hardship, loss, work, dogs, old times, friendship and so much more. I´m so grateful for those opportunities and will cherish the memories. I miss Elaine´s sharp wit, words of wisdom, calming presence, thoughtful, entertaining text messages (she had a way with words), and her beautiful smile. She was a rare gem and will always hold a special place in my heart.

1987 rewind... When I moved to Davis in high school, Elaine was so relaxed, kind and generous to include me with her friends. Elaine´s smile and easy laugh was so welcoming and authentic. Her family took me to Tahoe one weekend and it was my first time ever to the lake, which was beautiful, but I mostly remember listening to music and her patient mother while we giggled and screamed the whole way. When Elaine went to Cal Poly, she invited a few of her Davis friends to meet her for Poly Royale, such a good time (see incriminating photos below) that it was soon shut down by San Luis Obispo. I don´t know if Elaine ever knew how much I appreciated her kindness and laughter. I certainly have wonderful memories together. Peace be with you my friend. Love, Cate

Elaine loved the beauty of Nature, with one of her favorite places being Lake Tahoe. She often shared her family home on the lakeshore with her friends and I was lucky enough to make several trips with her there. We swam, kayaked in the crystal clear water, threw tennis balls for the dogs, and hiked on the local mountain trails. The sunsets over the lake were absolutely incredible. This was a very special place where we could recharge our batteries and enjoy just relaxing in each other´s company.
During one of our visits, I convinced her to paraglide over the lake with me. She was easily talked into it as she was always up for an adventure. It was terrifying and exhilarating! We both had smiles from ear to ear!
I miss my beautiful and loving friend every day.

Elaine had recently acquired a two person inflatable kayak. She proposed we do a whitewater run on the American River (north fork?) I remember we brought our bike helmets thinking we should have head protection. We went deep into a hole in one of the rapids and I remember just being spun around and around with the bike helmet choking me, we laughed all afternoon.
