Elaine Carol Roop Hoover, 66, of Escondido, Calif., died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at home.

Born Dec. 8, 1946, in Union Bridge, she was the daughter of Olive Main Roop, of Bridgewater, Va., and the late W. Roger Roop. She was the wife of Mark Hoover, of Plattsburg, Mo., her husband of 15 years.

She was a 1964 graduate of Francis Scott Key High School. She was very active in sports and was elected as Miss Francis Scott Key her senior year. She had a close circle of female friends and was known to them as "Roopie."

She completed her licensed practical nurse training at the University of Maryland. She was a flight attendant with American Airlines for several years and was an LPN with a medical practice in Plattsburg while raising her children.

She graduated with a degree in elementary education from Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph, Mo. and subsequently completed chiropractic training at Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, Mo. She practiced as a chiropractor in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.

Surviving, in addition to her mother and husband, are children Monika Hoover Woods and husband Casey Woods, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Matthew Hoover and wife Marissa Hoover, of Los Angeles, Calif.; grandchildren Grant, Graham, and Grace Woods; sisters Shirley Kirkwood, of Bridgewater, Va., Patricia Roop Hollinger and husband Byron Hollinger, of Westminster; nieces Patricia Cheeks and husband Steve Weaver, of Broadway, Va., Ann Cheeks, of Ouray, Colo., Kathy Cheeks, of Port Republic, Va., Kimberly Kirkwood, of Manassas, Va., Burton Kirkwood and wife Mary Clare Kirkwood, of South Sutton, N.H., and Stephen Bubel, of Towson; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by a nephew, Michael Eugene Bubel; and brothers-in-law James Kirkwood and Dexter Robinson.

Services are not scheduled at this time.

I knew Elaine from the 50's and 60's. She will be missed by many of freinds and family. I think about her often as the most friendly and compassionate person I know.
