Elder Sykes Obituary
Portsmouth - 60, departed this life on Monday, December 22, 2014. He was the husband of Alva "Starr" Fletcher Sykes and brother of Bishop Terence M. Sykes, both of Lynchburg, VA. A memorial service honoring his life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 3rd, 2015 at Shekijah Preparation Assembly 104 Fleetwood Dr. Lynchburg, VA. (434) 237-7721. The memorial will also be live streamed online at www.shekijah.org/live

I was sadden to hear about the passing of Pastor Sykes. He was a good hearted person who loved the Lord, music, family, and friends. My condolences go out to the family. A jewel has been lost. God Bless Michelle Johnson

To Starr, Terence and the rest of the Sykes family. Clarence will be missed with his infectious smile, humor and magnificent tenor voice. I will always remember the times we all shared as music majors at Norfolk State. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. He is now singing in the heavenly choir. I love you all dearly.

God used this man in mighty way during his earthly journey. My family has been blessed by his friendship. Now, my friend has finished his raced, and God has set him free. The tenor section in heaven has welcomed another "Worshipper" for all eternity! You are loved and missed!

I send my sincere condolences to the Sykes family for Clarence's loss. I first heard his singing voice during the fall of 1972 at Manor High School and was forever struck by it's beauty. My prayers go out to his family and to all the students he taught to sing to the best of their abilities and to love music as he did.
