Eleanor Latterner Obituary

Eleanor (Gettings) Latterner, age 95, passed away on February 15, 2025 in Gainesville, Georgia, where she resided for the last 10 years. She was born on September 23, 1929 in Frugality, PA, to Michael and Beatrice (Ratchford) Gettings, and remained there until the family moved to Cresson when Eleanor was in eighth grade. She attended Cresson High School, graduating in 1947, and married Benjamin Latterner two years later.

Eleanor and Ben retired to Florida in 1987, and spent many happy years in their Deltona home. A few years after Ben's passing in 2011, Eleanor decided to move to Gainesville, Georgia to be with family.

Although she worked at various jobs outside the home throughout her life, her primary calling was as a wife, mother and homemaker. She kept a spotless home, and was an excellent cook and baker.

Eleanor is survived by her three children, Cherine Criste (Patrick) of Gainesville, GA; Daniel (Laura) Latterner of Ann Arbor, MI; and Kelly (Renee) Latterner, also of Gainesville; grandchildren Brian Criste, Brad Criste, Daniel Latterner Jr., Leah Latterner Wang, Anna Latterner, Duane Fay, Daniel Fay; great-grandchildren, Bailey Criste Hickson, Autumn Criste, Emerson Wang, Yohann Fay, Mich'ael Fay, and Kaitlyn Fay. Also surviving are two siblings, James (Mary) Gettings, and Patricia (Edgar) Conrad, both of Cresson. Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, husband, sisters Louise, Mary Alice, Winifred, Jean, Lorraine, Connie, Judy, and infant brother Thomas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Aloysius Church in Cresson, PA at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made in Eleanor's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, GA 30501.
