ZAMORANO, ELIUD HECTOR was born on Easter Sunday April 14, 1935 to Carmen Esquivel and Hilario Rocha Zamorano in Dallas, Texas. His parents and nephew Michael preceded him in death. He joined his parents Wednesday, November 26, 2003. He was a graduate of Lubbock High School and received his BA and MA from Texas Christian University. Hector was a retired educator and linguist. He taught in the Dallas ISD and Carrolton-Farmers Branch ISD. Hector served on sixteen State Education Departments. He served on the Advisory Commission for the Education of Disadvantaged Children under President Jimmy Carter. Hector was honored by the Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as Dallas County College Educator of the Year in 1973. He served as President and held other positions with the Classroom Teachers of Dallas/Texas State Teachers Association. He spearheaded the Spanish Church of Christ in Roswell, N.M. Hector helped with the Lords work in Irving, Lubbock and Bridgeport, Texas. Hector and Wanda Sawyer Gatewood married in 1973 and raised their children in Irving, Texas. Survivors include daughters Carmi Hodges of Austin, Kelley Zamorano of Boston, MA; Carla Vance of Terrell; Kathy Brothers of Mesquite; Christi Zamorano of Mesquite, and Bita Zamorano of Irving; son Roland Zamorano of Dallas; sisters Carmen Tabor of Garland; Yolanda Rubio of Arlington; Lydia Zamorano of Arlington; six grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. The funeral service will be at the Ben Browns Memorial Funeral Home at 1:00 P.M. Friday, November 28th. A graveside service will be held at Oakland Cemetery 3900 S. Oakland Avenue, Dallas at 2:30 PM. Ministers officiating are Norris Shelton and Max Zamorano. Pallbearers are cousins Ronnie and Jonathan Zamorano; Al and Michael Sabedra; Johnny Vasquez and Bobby Esquivel. The family wishes to express gratitude for the many hands and hearts who cared for Hector.
