Elizabeth Bedford Obituary

Elizabeth Hill Bedford, 93, of Colonial Heights, Va., and Albuquerque, N.M., died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011, at her son's home in Albuquerque.

She is survived by son; C. David Bedford of Albuquerque, N.M.; daughter, Anne Bedford Tamea of Princeton, W.Va.; brother, George W. Hill and wife, Mary, of Baton Rouge, La.; four grandchildren, Rebecca Tamea and husband, Zachary Ronan, of Pittsfield, Mass., Daniel Tamea of Ithaca, N.Y., Laura Tamea of Asheville, N.C., and Hayley Tamea and husband, Ryan Brady and great-granddaughter, Anna Lee Brady, of Lewisburg, W.Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl D. Bedford; sisters, Doris H. Taylor and Alice H. Dreger; and brother, W. Gordon Hill.

Mrs. Bedford, a philanthropist, was a 1934 graduate of Varina High School, a retired library assistant for Colonial Heights Public Library, a great gardener, and an active member of Highland Methodist Church in Colonial Heights.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 4300 Pilot Lane, Richmond. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Colonial Heights Library, 1000 Yacht Basin Drive, Colonial Heights VA 23834.
