Elizabeth Butler Brewton

Elizabeth Miller Butler Brewton was born on October 8, 1929 and died on August 11, 2017.

Mrs. Elizabeth Brewton, a native of Savannah, graduated from Savannah High School and attended Armstrong Junior College. She married David Eugene Brewton on April 7, 1951.

Mrs. Brewton, who served in many capacities in the Jaycettes, was honored as the Outstanding Jaycette for 1959-60, and served as the president from 1963-64. An active member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, she held various leadership roles in the United Methodist Women, was president of the Roy Morehouse Sunday School class, and administrative board chairperson. Mrs. Brewton sang in the choir and worked many days in the food pantry and the clothes closet. She was also a member of the Habersham Garden Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Mrs. Elizabeth Brewton is the daughter of the late Manning Warren Butler and Roberta Cooper Butler. Her husband of over fifty years, David Eugene Brewton, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her two daughters, Karen Brewton Hodges and her husband, Kenneth David Hodges, of Lawrenceville; their two sons, David Brewton Hodges and his wife, Christie Ledlow Hodges, of Dawsonville, Mathew Brewton Hodges of Atlanta, and Debra Brewton Kessler and John Almond Kessler of Charlottesville, VA; their two daughters, Maria Kessler Schroedl and her husband, Andrew Joseph Schroedl, of San Diego, CA, and Julie Kessler Roach and her husband, Jay Tyler Roach, of Dacula; and nieces and nephews and close cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2017 in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery with Rev. William G. Hester officiating.

The family wishes to thank Wesley Woods Rehabilitation Center and Delmar Gardens for their loving care of Mrs. Elizabeth Brewton. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Brewton's request was to send memorial contributions to the charity of your choice in her memory.
