Elizabeth Copeland Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 6, 2019.
Elizabeth Rost Copeland of Montgomery, Alabama, died on January 2, 2019, at 88 years of age in Birmingham. Her children are Merrily Copeland Brewer (David), Deborah Copeland Blouin (David), and Ellen Copeland Webster (Rich).
Betsy was very proud of her grandchildren, Julie Carmichael McLeod, Merrily Carmichael York, David Theodore Brewer, Amy Katharine Blouin, David Connor Blouin Jr, Richmond Copeland Webster, and Elizabeth Turner Webster, and her great grandchildren, Elizabeth Suzanne McLeod, Caroline Reed McLeod, David Conner Blouin III, Everett Hugh Blouin, Jackson DeVoe York, Julie Garner York, Merrily Tyson York.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore DeVoe Copeland Jr., and her daughter, Elizabeth Dale Donley.
Betsy had a strong faith, and lived this assurance of Christ's love in her daily life. Alongside her husband Ted, Betsy was an active supporter of the Cursillo movement in the Episcopal Church, as well as Faith Alive. She served as a member of the Department of Evangelism for the Diocese of Alabama and was known to many congregations.
Before moving to Birmingham and joining Saint Luke's Episcopal Church, Betsy was an active Founding member of Christ Church Anglican in Montgomery, Alabama.
Living most of her life in Montgomery, Besty was involved in many worthwhile charitable causes, including Meals on Wheels, Episcopal Church Women, Family Guidance counseling, and the board of Hospice. She was also a member of DAR, and the Calladium Garden Club.
Betsy loved to travel, in this country and abroad, and in her later years she made many friends in her beloved mountains of North Carolina. She loved to play bridge, dabbled in art, and was a voracious reader.
Betsy was also an accomplished businessperson, opening a successful dress shop in Montgomery, The Trousseau Shop, which she owned for eight years. She also started and managed a bookstore at the Church of the Ascension.
Betsy was born on January 7, 1930, in Savannah, GA. Her parents were Lillian Williamson and Henry Steffan Rost. In 1950, she married Theodore Devoe Copeland. At the University of Alabama, Betsy was a Chi-Omega, and also attended Old Dominion College.
Betsy's family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers, and especially the staff and friends at Kirkwood By the River, who all made her move to Birmingham a new adventure.
A celebration of Betsy's life will be held on January 10, at Leak Memory Chapel, with a visitation at 1:00pm and a Memorial Service at 2:00pm. An inurnment will follow.
