Elizabeth Flynn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 11, 2011.
Elizabeth (Farrell) Flynn, 87, of Sarasota, Florida, formerly of Huntington, New York, died on May 11, 2011, surrounded by her husband of 62 years, Robert Flynn, and her four grown children.

She was born and raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the beloved daughter of Jane and Andrew Farrell. She received her undergraduate degree from Marywood College in 1945, completed an internship in dietetics at Brooke General Hospital in San Antonio, Texas in 1947, and worked as a dietician at Polyclinic Hospital in New York City and Philadelphia General Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In 1948 she married the love of her life, Robert J. Flynn. The couple moved to Huntington, New York, in 1955 where they raised their four children, and where her husband served for six years as Town Supervisor and established a law practice. She enjoyed the energy and excitement of being a political wife in the 1960s, but most of all she loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. After wintering in Siesta Key, Florida for many years, the couple moved there permanently in 2008. She was an avid reader, a champion bridge player, a wonderful cook and baker, loved and admired by her many friends and all of her family.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her four children and their families: Jane Davidson, her husband, William Davidson, and their two children William Jr., and Anne of East Northport, New York; Robert J. Flynn, Jr., his wife, Patricia, and their three children, Caroline, Stephen, and Meghan of Northport, New York; Laura McCarthy, her husband, Kevin McCarthy, and their two sons, Liam and Michael of Bow, New Hampshire; and Elizabeth Irving, her husband, Robert Irving, and their son, Robert, Jr., of Putnam Valley, New York. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Andrew Farrell and Paul Farrell, and she is also survived by their children, her eight nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael The Archangel Church, 5394 Midnight Pass Road, Siesta Key, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Senior Friendship Center Nutrition Program, 1888 Brother Geenen Way, Sarasota, FL 34236.Arrangements under the direction of National Cremation & Burial Society, Sarasota, FL.
