Elizabeth M. Guttenplan

Elizabeth M. Guttenplan Elizabeth M. Gutten- plan, 97, a former resident of State College, passed away on May 17, 2014, at the Kensington Assisted Living Residence in White Plains, N.Y. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Ida Phillips. While a resident of State College, Betty was a member of the Faculty Wives Organization, and the duplicate Bridge Club. She was also past president of the local Hadassah Group. She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by a sister, Beatrice; brother, Alan; and by her beloved husband, Henry, former Professor of Law Enforcement and Corrections at Penn State. Surviving are three sons, Joseph (Hilde) Larchmont, N.Y., Marc (Barbara), Pottsville and Martin (Vicki), Tallahassee, Fla. Grandchildren: Dr. Nils Guttenplan (Deanne) New York, Alys Guttenplan, New York, Tamara Guttenplan (John Adams), Pennsylvania, David Guttenplan, Washington, DC. One great-grandson, Yann Guttenplan. Elizabeth, Betty to all who knew her, was devoted to her family. She spent a good part of her early life in Brooklyn, dealing with responsibilities of raising a family while her beloved husband was overseas in WW II, and then for many years on duty as an New York City policeman. Among the things she enjoyed most were: swimming, bridge (she was a master bridge player), traveling, reading, her Siamese cats, and spending time with family and friends. She was always warm, generous, hospitable, and had sense of humor and enjoyed a good joke. She was very active for most of her life and continued regular swimming until her 90th year. She touched many lives. Services were held at Zion Memorial Chapel in Mamaroneck, N.Y. Interment in New Montefiore, West Babylon, N.Y.
