Elizabeth Leidy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 3, 2024.
Elizabeth May Leidy passed away peacefully on March 18, 2024, in Sacramento, California, with her family at her side. She is survived by her two sons, George Royal Leidy (Tami Irwin) and Robert Alfred Leidy (Elizabeth Goldmann). Elizabeth also leaves her seven grandchildren, Adam, Seth, Laura, Luke, Garrett, Jena, and Kate, and three great-grandchildren, Dorothy, Elle, and Ava.

Elizabeth was born in Atlanta, Georgia. At age 11, her family relocated to San Diego, and while attending Woodrow Wilson Junior High School, she met her future husband, Alfred Leymer Leidy. Elizabeth worked several jobs as a young adult, including as a bookkeeper at Ryan Aeronautical Company. Along with her three siblings, she helped support her family during the Great Depression.

Elizabeth and Al married in 1944 and had a loving marriage for 71 years. When WWII broke out, Al joined the U.S. Marine Corps. Elizabeth participated in and supported the Marine Corps ladies' activities while living in Guam, North Carolina, Virginia, and California.

Elizabeth and Al loved to dance, so they attended many dinner functions at the Carmichael Elks Lodge and the Military Officers Association of America in the company of other retired military friends. Elizabeth and Al were constant travelers, with several notable trips to Europe, Russia, China, and Mexico. They especially loved their annual vacations to Hawaii. Needle point was her favorite craft, creating many beautiful scenes passed on to family members. Elizabeth and Al also enjoyed playing bridge with friends. She was a self-taught harmonica master, prolific reader, 49ers fan, and supporter of many charities. She always kept abreast of the local news and national politics.

Elizabeth and Al dedicated much of their time to their adoring grandchildren. As the family matriarch, she was generous, kind, and thoughtful, with an understated, witty sense of humor. Elizabeth was a loving wife and devoted mother, and she shared a long life filled with boundless love for her family. For this, we are blessed.
