Elizabeth Murphy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 5, 2024.
Elizabeth Ruth Murphy , a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Escondido, California, on May 3, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 5, 1945, in Reykjavik, Iceland, Elizabeth was the cherished daughter of Sigga Svenjornsdóttir (later Baker) and Simon Rolf Miller.

Elizabeth's early life took a significant turn when she moved from Iceland to Kansas City, Missouri at age 6. She embraced her new home and, in 1970, proudly became a U.S. citizen. Elizabeth's youth was marked by her grace and poise, winning a beauty queen pageant in Kansas City, Missouri.

In 1965, Elizabeth married Patrick Murphy. Together, they welcomed their son, Mark Murphy five years later. The family first settled in Eagle Rock, California, and in 1978, they moved to Valley Center, where they were blessed with their daughter, Melissa Beth Murphy, in 1981.

Elizabeth was a dedicated member of the Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF) for over forty years, finding deep spiritual fulfillment and a community of like-minded individuals. She shared a birthday with the founder of SRF, which only strengthened her connection to the fellowship. Elizabeth's commitment to her faith was evident in her decades of service, including teaching Sunday school and participating in numerous church activities.

Driven by her compassionate nature, Elizabeth pursued a medical assisting certificate from Palomar College later in life. Her careers also included being a skilled hairdresser and an esthetician at the Golden Door, where she took great pride in caring for her clients.

In 2006 Elizabeth found love and companionship with Kevin Patrick, whom she married in 2015. Their relationship was a source of joy and support in her later years.

Elizabeth is survived by her devoted husband, Kevin; her children, Mark Murphy and Melissa Beamish; and her beloved grandchildren, Samantha Murphy, Jack Murphy, and Carter Beamish. She will be remembered as a kind, intelligent, and generous soul who touched the lives of many.

A memorial service to celebrate Elizabeth's life will be held on August 17, 2024, at Escondido Center of Self-Realization Fellowship in the morning.
