Elizabeth Spahr Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 19, 2025.
Elizabeth Dorothea Slattery Spahr, loving and generous mother, grandmother and sister, died peacefully in New York City on March 10th, 2025, in her 77th year.

A lifelong resident of Manhattan, Liz graduated from the Chapin School '66 and Barnard College 70'. Following college, she married, had two children and worked at various sales jobs in New York City, including the Marlboro Gallery and Yves Saint Laurent. Also, for a period of 10 years, she worked as business manager for the entertainer Bobby Short. Ultimately, in the mid-1980's, she went on to a successful career in Manhattan residential real estate sales, first at Edward Lee Cave and then, for the past 25 years until her death, at Corcoran.

Vastly knowledgeable about Manhattan real estate, Liz worked competently, ethically and shrewdly to close numerous noteworthy transactions involving eminent townhouses and pre-war co-op apartments.

Liz is survived by her son Nicholas of Atlanta, her daughter Emily Spahr Madden of New York, her five grandchildren, her brother John of Manhattan, and her sister Andrea Slattery McCracken of Darien, Connecticut.

A funeral service will be held in Manhattan at St James' Church (865 Madison Ave at 71st Street) on April 10 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in her memory.

Dear Lizzie's family,

I am deeply saddened to hear that you have lost your mother/grandmother/ other relationships- to the toughest battle with the cruel cancer. I send my heartfelt condolences to you all. I was friends with Lizzie since our early 20s meeting her at St Laurent, my first NY job. We shared several friends but you Lizzie bacame a very special friend to me. We shared many catchup lunches and trips around the museums and galleries when I visited NYC, and we had planned a visit to Istanbul together, but covid ruined our plans. I will miss you and hearing about your wonderful family whom you loved so very much. I send love from England and will be thinking of you all on Apri 10th. Lizzie, you were so brave for so long, may you now rest in peace.

Dear Emily, our family remembers your Mom so fondly. Her wonderful disposition in all the years I have known her was remarkable. She always had a friendly greeting as we passed on the Avenues during our Real Estate journey.....And , of course , during our years together during our Chapin years were equally memorable as we watched our daughter's mature into terrific young women!

Lots of love from our family, Lois Nasser, Julia Nasser & Andy
